Coolant for Mi16 in a 205 (OAT or not?)

Recommended Posts

The Comma web site suggests that the Xstream G48 is the right coolant for the 405 Mi16.  G48 has silicate based inhibitors.

However it also suggests that the Xstream G30 is the right coolant for the standard 205.  G30 has OAT inhibitors.

What should I use in my 205 Mi16?

The current coolant looks pink so probably OAT based?  Going to flush the coolant so probably doesn't matter what's currently in there anyway!

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Just a thought, but have you considered the water free coolant by Evans.    http://www.evanscoolants.co.uk/

It's a strange one really as the market uptake of it seems to be quite sluggish, but there doesn't really seem to be a reason for it other than perhaps habit maybe.

We use it in the project car and it is truly fantastic in every single way. A little pricey yes, but you do get to keep it. Apart from that there are only pluses to using it.

Check it out and see what you think of it...

All the best,

O.T.

either would suffice with a fresh flushed system, the materials in both engines are the same, as is the rest of the cooling system.

the only occasion to be especially careful is if you had a copper core radiator, however these days aluminium has taken its place so anything that works with that and steel will suffice

Thanks - I found out it's currently got OAT based coolant so will re-fill with this.

I like the idea of Evans water free coolant but not sure I could get all of the water out of the system...

Hi Paul,

Evans do a specific flushing fluid specifically for that issue. http://www.evanscoolants.co.uk/Coolants/Automotive/prep_fluid

They also have some excellent instructions for using it to...

Honestly though, and this is purely a personal opinion. The stuff is amazing and there just are no downsides, save only perhaps the initial cost.

From a purely technical perspective,.  Flawless.......

It still astounds me that we didn't use it years ago. Especially in a wet liner aluminium block.

All the very best,

O.T.

Hi Ivica,

Yes, they do it. If you go to there website somewhere in there is a link to technical, and they will supply you with the entire data sheet.

All the best,

O.T.
