As above

Does the dw10 (88mm hdi crank) fit in a xu9j4 block

Well, the EW12 crank fits in an Xu10j4 block, the XU9J4 crank fits in an Xu10j4 block , so by inference the EW/DW 10 crank ought to fit in the XU9J4 block. Big end diameter is correct but not sure about the big end diameter ontheDW10 crank. On the EW10 crank they are 45mm but may be 50mm on the diesel one. The EW12 crank  has 50mm big end journals

Conversely, the 86mm XU10J4/R/RS crank doesn't fit an XU9 block.

Ah. Not spotted that one . Is that the thrust journal , as the bore spacing is the same ?

PS. First road / circuitrace on Sunday. Closed circuit , one hour plus three laps . In the ‘over 65’ category, but the pace will still  be frantic  as we old gits  all try to kill each other .

Yes, thrust journal. Enjoy the racing. At least they're usually on nice bikes. Remember to have some slow release carbs prior. And stay off the front! Let some other poor old bastard do the work. Most importantly, don't burn all your matches too early.

what about the thrust journal makes it not fit?

ive had an xud9 crank in an xu7, also the 92mm xud11 did sit in there but would not turn a full revolution, I think the counterweight in some area was fouling a big end cap or block casting slightly

The XU9DTE seems to similar to the xu9j4, so maybe the dw10 is alike? I'm also interested if this will fit...

Reading this topic; it could be a fit...

The DW10TD was using a XUD7TE crank and the DW10ATED a XUD9TE one ; at least on brad new cars. The spare part may be the stronger XUD9TE crank for both.

I had to look a bit more into it and before PSA created the 0501.K7 crank that replaced all the older ones you could find two types of XUD*TE/DW10 cranks: those with rolled fillets and those without.

HF05A77A.TIF

Rolled fillets cranks are using classic 2.28mm thrust washers (0118 G2 ex 0117 79) but the other cranks need 1.83mm ones (0118 F4 ex 0117 95) so some XUD*TE/DW10 cranks will fit as is but others need the right parts.

The thin thrust washers are becoming harder to find and more expensive so keep it in mind if you're looking for a cheap crank.
