List of tools to rebuild be3 box

Recommended Posts

kyepan

Hi there,

Planning to strip and recondition a be3 with dad in the new year, he's done plenty of mini boxes, but we need to know what tools ( also preferred brand) that we'll need to complete the job properly. If anyone can help with a list of be very grateful.

Cheers

Justin

Nothing that specialised really. A 12 point socket for the main shaft nut, it’s an odd size maybe 33mm but don’t buy one from that. I’ve an old Britool imperial socket I use that’s a good fit. A set of proper roll pin punches is useful for the selector fork pins.

  • Thanks 1

Jack that link is brilliant, and entire guide! I'll have a good read through, sent it on to my Pa too.

28mm halfords 12pt 1/2" drive socket is what I bought.

pin punches and pullers as mentioned, as well as 11, 16 and 19mm sockets.

you'll need a low and standard range torque wrench, a vernier or digital caliper with depth gauge for the input shaft shim checking, give me a shout when you get to that bit as I have a selection of shims, though if you are re-using the original shaft you might be ok with the original shim.

And ThreeBond 1211 to seal it.

No need to remove the pin on the main selector shaft it all comes out sliding it out, I can have one stripped in around 5 to 10 mins (Impact gun), longest bit is cleaning it up
