Weird struts issue

Recommended Posts

idoari

Hi, just replace the front spring and the top nut to the original one and when i lowered the car on its wheels there is a gap between the strut and the top nut cap .

Tried to tighten the top nut more but i buttom out and the gap still present. I've used the factory holes on the strut towers with a threaded rod since i have tge original struts (it's not leaking).

I also replaces the strut rubber stops , the top bearing and the top rubber bushes - basicly everything is new minus the struts.

What is the problem?

Thanks

It looks like the spring isnt seated correctly in the pan in the second picture. Has it rotated too far on assembly? This might be the cause.

Have you put the thick washer on the top of the damper rod before anything else?

You mean the washer that goes above the dust cover? -yes of course.

The order of the parts was

Top mount nut

Top mount washer

Strut Spade connector washer

Strut upper cover - the one with the three captive bolts.

Rubber buffer

Dome cover - dont know how to call it

Bearing and bearing seat

Spring upper seat

Spring

Thick washer

Dust cover

Rubber stop

Dumper

The spring definitely doesn't look like it's seated correctly.
