Track rod nut

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I bought new track rod end balljoint nuts from the Peugeot dealer. OE 4010F5. These ones have a white plastic cone attached to it.

The nuts on my car don't have the plastic cone. What is the function of this plastic cone? Further I cannot imagine the plastic can take the recommended torque of 35 Nm. Also as the nut will sit much higher on the Track rod end I must have some 2 to 3 mm of threads exposed on the top for the nylock to do its job. Otherwise I connot trust this and will reuse the current nuts.

In general would someone elaborate on this topic?

Best regards,

Maarten Verhage

the cone inverts as you tighten the nut, i believe its to pull the rod end into the taper and not rely on the friction in the joint to hold it against a fresh nyloc.

Thanks but I'm still unsure how a properly torqued down (plastic cone) nut should look like. Does someone have a photo, maybe?

Or could you describe that inversion a little more precise please?
