Seal / oil leak identification please (picture included)

Gents,

My 205 1.4 Roland Garros TU3S is up on the ramp at my local garage at the moment and, as requested, they've identified the source of a couple of oil leaks around the distributor area. One is the O-Ring Seal behind the Cap which I'll order for them.

The second leak area is from the gasket/seal between the engine block and the metal mounting block that sits between the engine block and the distributor - so, you have engine block>metal mounting block>distributor. (Sorry, neither I nor the mechanics know what to refer to this metal mounting block as).

There is some silicone sealant oozing out of the join between the engine block and that metal mounting block. This is the seal that's failed.

Please see the picture in the uploaded images section where you can clearly see the sealant oozing out.

Q: Is there supposed to be a paper or rubber gasket here or is there just some type of factory sealant applied?

Q: If there is a gasket, what is the part number and how is it referred to by Peugeot? Is it still available from Peugeot?

I have looked on ServiceBox but can't see the metal block between the engine block and distributor referred to on any diagram.

Your expertise in identifying this gasket is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Mark

Just another photo to hopefully make it clearer the area I'm referring to - circled in red.

Oil is weeping from various areas around this join/seal/gasket which is between the side of the engine block (bottom of photo) and the 'mounting block' bolted to it and which has the distributor bolted to the other end of it ('flanged nut' securing distributor is visible at top of photo).

Is this a common oil leak area and is there a gasket available from Peugeot?

Many thanks, Mark23532524_Pug205073.thumb.JPG.6a40da1ee28597b6f204947dcfbc5f9a.JPG

Kinda common area for oil leaks yes .. it's thermostat housing (inside theres two galleries for oil and coolant) , need to unblolt it , clean up the surface free from the old gasket/sealant particles on the head and the housing , and reseal with the RTV sealant or similar .

Thank you Damir - you've given me all the information I required. Much appreciated.

RTV sealant was the solution my local garage were suggesting, but as they know I like things done properly, they asked me to investigate if there was a Peugeot gasket for this job first.

One of the main reasons I've just returned to 205 ownership is due to the wealth of knowledge and help available through this forum, so thanks for living up to expectations!

Cheers again,

Mark

Need to "re-correct" myself (getting a bit old now !!) , it's an two piece/split housing on a TU engine - so one sealing cooling gallery which is refereed to as thermostat housing , and one sealing oil gallery from the distributor to the head/camshaft housing .

The one which leaks on your pic. is the distributor to the head housing .

So , you decide weather you want to do both housings or just the oil leaking one .

Not sure if there was an OE gasket for those two , anyhow if you wish , you can buy some gasket paper and make yourself an gasket for those  .. but the sealant alone does the job just fine providing the mating surfaces are well cleaned/prepared and quality sealant used along with proper torquing the housing bolts .

Attached a few pics of the said job i did on a 1.3 rallye engine , an sample pics of gasket made out of gasket paper (i did for carb manifold , just to get you an idea) , and a few bonus pics of a proper euro rallye 1.3 engine ! :

Thanks again Damir, that's a very useful update and set of pictures.

I'll share that with with my local garage in the morning as they'll be taking these galleries off and resealing them tomorrow.

Cheers, Mark
