Miles old 1.6GTI finally being restored after 15 year delay

Hi All,

Today is a big day which has been roughly 15 years in the making, as the little pug has gone to the body shop to be fully resprayed.

Below are some pictures taken this morning on the transporter and a second taken outside the body shop waiting to start its journey.

The known history of the car was, that this was one of Miles' run about's, which I bought back in Autumn 2004 to initially replace another 1.6gti I had at the time.

The idea was this was going to be my day to day run around and my other would be taken off the road and turned into a track day weapon.

However it soon dawned on me that my original car, was in far to good a condition to do that too, so it was this car that was stripped to pieces.

Unfortunately in the winter of 2004, I spectacularly wrote the black 1.6gti off, driving way to fast in the new forest and i'm afraid that kind off killed the 205 bug for me and hence this car has languished in a lock up for 14 years.

Last year I moved house and finally moved the car to my garage and seeing it every day in the state it is in (pictures to follow in further threads) has motivated me to do something about it, hence it going to the body shop to have the paint work completely renewed.

Its next stop after that is completed, is to visit its previous owner Mr Horne, to have a mechanical overhaul and to return in a couple of months running GTI6 power.

Ill be updating this thread with some old photos when it was a working car and of how things are progressing.

I spy an pretty early South Meet there!  I wonder how many of the 205's in attendance are still on the roads?

Hi Ant, I know of one which isn't on the road, which was my old black 1.6 GTI as mentioned above .

Other than wanting to get this car back on the road to be part of next years 35 years of the GTI celebrations, it is because of this little guy :)
