Chugging mid revs range

Can anyone help. My 1987 205 CTI is idling out when started from cold, and is also chugging when revved through the mid rev range. I put some 97 octane which seemed to fix it, but it's not really a proper fix. It's just had a service, including spark plugs/HT leads/ rotary arm/ air filter.
