Rear Shock Setup

Built my new rear beam up with new shockers and fitted it. On looking in the Haynes manual for torque settings it says when bolting on the new shockers you

must tighten the nuts up when the centre of the bolts are 288.0mm apart. I don’t really understand this, surely the shockers just bolt into there holes and that’s it??

Also does anybody know if the circled bolt/nut needs a washer on it, I know the brake pipe mounting bracket goes on it but that’s just needs cleaning up and painting yet.

you tighten the bolts with the arm raised to mimic the position qhwn the wheels are on the ground, which prevents the rubber bushes from wearing prematurely, as you would do with the front wishbones.

Pretty sure there should be a washer yes.

So now the shocks and beam are fitted would you just slacken them once on the ground and re-torque them? Or how would I do it with it still on the stands? Thanks for your help

That will be fine on the ground if you can reach,   get a bod sat in drivers seat for extra super precision .

While it’s on axle stands could I jack it on the bottom of the hub to mimic it being on the ground? Or is it easier to do it once down?

To be honest I wouldn't recommend it, you are torqueing that up to 120nm (I think) which is pretty high. You will be unloading the axle stands when you jack up the swing arm and could easily drag it off the jack when torqueing it up.

If you have boards I would lower the car down onto them and torque from there.
