Fitting new rear hubs/bearings

Recommended Posts

MattCPR

Car is a 1.9 GTi with rear discs.

Do the new hub assemblies need to be pressed onto the stub axles? Seem very tight, tapped them on slightly  with a socket but don’t want to damage them so I’ve left it at while I seek advice....

Drive them on with a hollow drift. They are quite a tight fit.

Yeah that’s what I thought but was worried I was going to damage the bearings inside, and didn’t have a deep enough socket. I will try and find something today.

Make sure you get them home with a drift, don't be tempted to try and pull them on with the hub nut, you could strip the threads trying, guess how I know!

I thought you only had hammers in your tool box so surprised you tried the nut method! :P
