Cold weather fuel consumption

Recommended Posts

calvinhorse

Is anybody else’s fuel consumption gone through the floor?

im running a 1.1 carb 205 and the mpg was incredible a month ago and now it’s absolutely terrible!

im hoping it’s down to long periods with the choke on and heaters on full cooling the engine constantly rather than a over furling problem!

having the heaters on shouldn't affect it at all really, I guess you havent got a gauge though?

might be a thermostat stuck open making it run cold.

The heater matrix and interior fan on full power are pretty effective at cooling an engine down not to mention drawing power from the alternator, a cold engine is a less economical engine

I agree but it should still run at a regulated temp by the thermostat.

It'll take longer to reach operating temp though if you get impatient and put the bower on full blast as soon as the slightest bit of warm air starts to make an appearance. But even then, sounds like it can't just be that, I cant believe it would have that significant an impact on economy.

I think I’ve partly cured this by putting some air in the tyres:blush: see how this week goes

Does it have the hot air feed from the exhaust like the SPi's?
If that's stuck or not working they use some juice in the cold, start stumbling when setting off in traffic too if it's really cold from carb icing.

Yes it’s all present and correct.

the 954cc I had had a lever that you swapped between cold air and the exhaust, this one is done via vacuum so only works above 1/2 throttle, might try and jam it open to the exhaust

Ah, I can see the issue with that only working under half throttle.....:D
