No they are different, think it's the drivers side that's the longer one.

We also need new cables - accepting that they are different lengths on each side, are the 1.6 GTI  (drum brakes) 'pair' the same as all the other models?  If not, which base models are the same ?

I thought there was only "drum brakes" or "disc brakes" versions.

There are 6 different cables.

A pair that fit all disc braked 205`s

A pair that only fit very early drum braked 205`s

And a pair that fit all other drum baked 205`s.

Dont get Pagid ones they are flimsy rubbish. The outer jacket is fragile they let water in ,rust then collapse.

All the Firstline branded ones I have fitted, have contained genuine Dura branded cables in the packets.

Even cables supposedly the same from different brands vary a bit in length, seek out Dura manufactured ones.

One thing that varies a lot is the increased diameter section which slides into the moulded plastic supports on the bottom of the fuel tank, often times they fall out and hang down untidily due to being too loose a fit.

There is a metal spring clip available that was never fitted to any 205 , it snaps onto the fuel tank moulding and retains  loose cables. I think it was for 306`s or mebbe 309s, I forget which, they were still available when I bought a packet of clips 5 years ago.
