Took the car for a drive and discovered that the hot spell the previous weeks back had split my knob (oh err) in 2 places :(

Only discovered this after changing gear and having the knob come off - made for an interesting final 50 miles home changing gear using just the gear shaft.

Time to find a replacement knob - either take a punt on one of the repro moulded ones or try to find a retro gearknob from the modding scene back in the '90's / early '00's.

Very similar has happened to me over this warm spell, mine has a massive crack down the front of the gear knob and the cap keeps falling out. If you try one of the repro gear knobs of anyone else has used them before could you let me know what they are like?

Weekend: shiney SMRs off and new (part-worn) PS3s on the scruffy Speedlines in preparation for Sunday's autosolo.

Was going well until a massive loss of concentration late morning put me out of contention.  Subsequently got most of the fastest times in class in the afternoon session, so could have been a good day otherwise. <_<

No problem.  At the moment I've resorted to wedging on the old plastic gearknob that came off the Mk5 Escort LX I owned back in '97-98   For some reason it was still buried in a box of car bits in the loft.

I've found a couple of sellers on eBay that have done their own reproductions of originals (both with & without caps), I think Peugeot Museum France do them too, and there's a seller in Italy listing a repro too, but by the looks of the packaging I think he's reselling Peugeot France repros with a mark up.

I think i'll bung a thread up in the interior subforum and try and get some feedback on who's possibly used what reproduction, etc, as no doubt some are better than others both looks and also fitment wise.

Painted the valance I bought off @pug_ham a few months ago. My first time using a real spray gun for top coat, and it didn't come out too badly. Pics flatter the finish but it's definitely passable.

Fitted a new TPS and reset the values in the software.

Noticed too that the ecu temp sensor was reading -20deg so have ordered a new one - that may explain the stench of fuel.

Went for a hack this evening and realised I've become too accustomed to xenon lights as I couldn't see a thing!

-20 sounds like the default open circuit value perhaps? Is it definitely the sensor at fault or could you have a wiring problem? It's probably worth checking the pins haven't been pushed back into the plastic connector housing.

I didn't bother - I paid £12 from amazon for a new bosch one and it now reads the correct temp.

If you leave it as an open circuit (disconnected) it reads 80deg.

(amazon the home of car parts!)

That's got me thinking, if your cooling fan is controlled by the Emerald neither of those temps (-20 or 80) are going to trigger it which isn't ideal, I might add a standard fan thermoswitch back on mine just in case!

I’m sure you can set the sensor “fail to” values to whatever you want in the software?

The emerald doesn’t control the fan on mine. I’ve still got the original set up for that, keep it simple!

I just had a look and I can't see anything other than on and off temps. Mine is an M3DK so maybe it's different in the later ones.
