Be1 And Be3 Clutch Cable.....

Recommended Posts

driversdomainuk

Hi

I have a BE1 gearbox in my 205 and am trying to find out if there is a difference between the BE1 and BE3 clutch cable.

I have been on ECP and add my registration in, and it says BE3.....Although mine is BE1.

Will a BE3 clutch cable fit a BE1?

Thanks

Rob

Yes they are different. Indeed, there's two different variants of BE1 cable depending on the age of the car (difference is in the pedal box fitting)

what year is your 205? the crossover is 1990, and is not specific to the BE1 to 3 change, the change affected MA cables too.

have a look at the pedal where the cable attaches, pre 90 use a clevis pin and a steel end fitting on the cable through a hole, post 90 use a hooked pedal and a plastic end fitting on the cable.

As Anthony mentioned there's a difference in the pedal box as well, before early 89 IIRC, they used a bayonet fitting on the outer cable end stop, later ones used a round hole and a different rubber grommet.

That's around the changeover point - I'd guess it'll be the later type BE1 cable, but I wouldn't be confident ordering without checking.

Careful, as some motor factors don't list this cable as existing, often only listing the early BE1 cable and the BE3 cable!

Thanks Anthony - So there are basically 3 clutch cables? An early BE1, a late BE1 and a BE3?

much the same as mine then, was built in April 89 registered in August, later type pedal box hole but clevis pin pedal.

there's early BE3 as well, with clevis pin fitting, but pretty rare, so actually 4 cables!

I just checked the Firstline catalogue, they only list three, pre 7/88 which is FKC1150, then 8/88 to 90 BE1 is FKC1103

the only BE3 they list is the post 90 type, FKC1078.

Motaquip list all 4.

yup V V C 372 is most likely, have a look at the pedal box where the outer cable fits, if its a plain round hole then that will do the job.

part number matches what the catalogue indicates, however I've had them cheaper at my local motorfactor.

FKC 1118 is for a be3 gearbox mate - so you wont need it

register with the first line website (free) and go through their parts selector for the clutch cable, really easy to do and find the correct cable that you'll need
