Wiper Spindle Diameter? Got An Idea

Has anyone got a front wiper spindle/linkage to hand and can measure the diameter of the shaft that passes through the plastic?

 

I have an idea regarding getting rid of the play in mine which hopefully will alleviate the juddering and slowness and want to order some bits, but haven't a spare spindle to hand without taking my daily driver apart..!

It's about 7mm I have one apart on my workbench and I'll measure it with verniers tonight if Dan doesn't beat me to it.

I was thinking of machining them down and fitting an Igus bush,

They're reasonably cheap, but there's a service charge for small orders IIRC.

Never bothered and eventualy found 2 spares which were in much better condition.

I've bored these out before and made an oilite bush.

Just measured mine at Ø9.95mm

probabbly was Ø10mm new though

Verniers are only halfords ones so I'd round that up to 10mm

Those are a digital caliper, there is no vernier scale on those.

I didn't think I'd have been the first to thing about boring the plastic bits out and fitting a bush of some sort, did you use something off the shelf or made some from some solid bar stock Tom?

I will have made something to suit. There isn't all that much meat to play with.

That's a good idea Tom as these are about £60 from main dealer to replace.
