[Car_Overhaul] 205 Gti Front Panel Replacement And Underside Restore W

Recommended Posts

dale205mills

The front end of my 205 looked about the same, but I managed to make a very nice repair panel for the inner wing. keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kinds words, the front end was rotten and split all the way up to the front shock mounts and with the washer bottle covering one side and a big fuel filter for my gti6 engine where the jack used to be a lot of it is out of site, the car is being built as a fast road car with trick bits and driven unlike my silver 205 which is a garage queen.

I have been able to do some work on the topaz over the week end, I have painted up my front hubs and trailing arms in black and my rear beam in glow in the dark yellow, I have all so blasted and cleaned all my bolts from my running gear for zinc plating and cleaned up stuff for the powder coaters.

Good work. I'm in the process of or about to do a lot of this stuff myself.

What paint did you use for the trailing arms? Looks nice and thick.

Bit of a update, re angled gti6 manifold turned up today, all the small brackets and bits that I blasted at home are at the powder coaters, all of my running gear bolts are ready for re plateing and I have just painted the bottom end on my gti6 engine in black, I will be paintingthe head in a few days after I have got some masking tape.

Bit of big update I have got all my bits from the powder coaters back all looking good and shiny and I don't think I will ever paint my bits again at home after seeing how well the bloke done and how cheaper it worked out then me doing it at home or in the oven at my mates body shop, soon as I start up warping I will post pictures up. I have had a week off work to do some work round the house and paint the engine bay on the 205, what started as a quick engine bay paint has ended up with a full front end re paint ie bumper, bonnet, grill, front wings and engine bay. The bumper, grill and bonnet were painted in the oven and engine bay and wings at home, I will be painting the wings again in the oven as I am 100% happy. I have got photos of engine bay and I will try and get pics of the other bits some time in the week.

I have been busy over the weekend running the engine bay wiring loom, I have decided to run it a different way to try and some ideas for my red one, there is some wires to be soldered to tidy the joins up as we all no french electrics can be brittle after time and I will heat shrink them for a nice uni form finish.

I have put the rear beam together and that is about it really as I have another big project on the go and that is a new home for my silver 205, I will let the photos do the talking and this is where my money has gone.

I think it is time for a bit of a update, with us having a nice summer this year and me trying to Finish my garage and recovery truck and putting a 3 door RS Cosworth back together, the Topaz has been left in the workshop and forgotten about but now the winter is here, that means 205 time.

Nice work, was it difficult removing and replacing the headlamp panels with the wings still in place?

Looks good - certainly a damned sight tidier than my Topaz!

20150418_192903_zpsrsltbjn2.jpg

I might be wrong as it's quite small on the picture, but haven't you got two oil pressure guage senders fitted, rather than a gauge sender and a warning light switch?
