Sump Removal

Recommended Posts

Im trying to remove a sump off a gti-6 engine, ive undone all the bolts up into the bottom of the block and tried tapping it off but it still seems totally solid. Will it just be held on the gunk/sealant?

Most likely, if every bolt is out then it must be just the sealant holding it together.

I had a similar thing on an alloy XU block & aloy sump recently & the sump had been on since new afaik & it was well stuck on.

As per Graham's reply, they can be quite stuck on - just make sure that you've not accidentally missed a bolt, as on a GTi-6 sump where many of them are recessed in the "winged" sections it is easy to miss one. If you've definately removed all the bolts, then normally a few taps with a suitable mallet will crack it off.
