To Breathe Or Not To Breathe (Or Rather Should I Replace My Perished O

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen.

 

My oil breather hose has just literally fallen apart at my touch. The question is, do I replace it or change to one of those new-fangled breather filters? Just wanting to know the arguments for each of them these days. I know the function of the hose, but is it necessary these days?

 

FYI I'm in New Zealand, a place where chopping your catalytic converter off is all but encouraged, so the environment doesn't enter into the equation!

Although it may seem quite a complicated affair, the oil breather system on a 205 8v when in good fettle with all the hoses free to pass oil/air mist and not collapsed, works very well.

On the other hand a breather filter on the main breather will not work well and I am sure you will soon have oily mess everywhere.

For my money, contact Stew at Baker BM (BBM) and buy the hoses you need, replace them with decent clips and you won't have to go back to the job any time soon.

Also if its on an AFM based injection system it needs to be a sealed breather system, if you pop a breather filter on there you cause an air leak engine side of the AFM, unless you faff with the whole lot.
