No, I if there were trouble codes in the ECU that wouldn't allow to run the engine in normal mode it would run in a safe mode. This normally doesn't result in misfires

But sometimes an ECU does things that can not really be explained...

Not 100% sure mate. I found the crank sensor wire was damaged and replaced it but it was still playing about so I gave up for a couple of weeks. Next time when I had some spare time I took out the fuel pressure regulator and cleaned it up and after that it ran fine.

 

Not convinced cleaning the pressure regulator did anything and the crank lead didn't seem to fix it at the time.

 

So I'm not sure :D
