2.0 Turbo Conversion

Recommended Posts

rory1

Hi

I'm converting my 1600 to a 2.0 turbo from a 406, and I'm having a bit of trouble with the timing.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions on how to set it?

Cheers

Paul

What part of it are you having trouble with mate? Sometimes the outer section of the bottom pulley slips round the inner part and the timing marks no longer line up.

The pulleys should have holes in them so you can lock them off, also theres groves on the pulleys to line up the white lines on the belt with.

the new timing belt doesn't have white marks on it.

i tried lining the holes on the pullys but the crank pully must have moved on the rubber part of the pully.

will it be at tdc when it is locked up correctly?

I had this problem on my 2.0 turbo project, I used the bottom pulley off a gti engine when I came to time it up as all the marks are in the same place also its a one piece one so theres no chance of getting it wrong then just swap back to the turbo one when its all timed up.

Mate I have a proper turbo bottom pulley with timing hole if youd rather have that. Real easy to time there is a single hole in the pulley and a hole in the block around 10clock position (7-8oclock looking at the pic above).

Then there is a hole in the cam pulley (5oclock in the pic above) that matches to a lug with a hole in the head. Use a thick drillbit on each timing hole to lock in position.

£15 posted if you want it. Ive also got a brand new timing belt (well, used for about 100 miles).
