SO feeling it was unfair to put my old 205 through my work milage i sold her on to a nice man from wales and looked at something with the same kind of feel but a bit more economical and comfortable and i found this:

so here it is as i picked it up

106 Gti

Bianca White

90k

half leather half alcantara

fully standard.

i dont think i posted up the building of my sub box for the 205 but here it is housing 2 8" kicker comps

DSCF1733.jpg

Before anyone asks its a fourth order isobarametric box, basically it can deliver the puch of an 8" woofer but can also do bigger drops like a 10 or 15, up front i have a set of JL audio Tr's just as that is what i had in the 205 there not bad but will be replaced soo with a set of 6.5" components. there bot running from and alpine 9880r

gay looking box is actually a copy of the Peugeot/Citroen Sport kit that costs £250+! I like them, certainly as quick as a 1.9 usually.

to get it sat right coilovers would be needed up front, with this i picked up some other handling bits in the way of braces,

Ast coilovers

Yeah i know its a shame its in a horrid fake carbon and the 106 logo on it but that will be sanded off soon and it will be sprayed with texture paint to make it look a bit more stock

Looks nice. Probably better with the new wheels.......but who am I to talk, with TSWs? :P

I've never driven a 106, but I bet they're a riot. Even more so with ITBs and mappable ECU. Mmmmmm.

Here's an observation that you probably didn't expect, about the sub box. Isobaric boxes (one where two drivers function as one to enable a use of a box nearly half the size needed for just one - but needing more power and effecting efficiency BTW) is that the rear subwoofer when mounted like you have them, should be half a cone width away from the front one; this makes them 'couple' better, to act as one unit.

You may have followed a Kicker design, but this recommendation is from theory. The air volume contained in the coupling chamber is not included in the calcs, as doing it the theoretical way means it's not worth worrying about. The box will also play deeper and you could get away with an even smaller (lighter) box.

Nice box vent BTW.

:)

it was all worked out with a mate who is a pro installer. unfortunatly all the calculation programs dont list oldskool subs like these, but in the very near future they could be replaced with some JL audio 8'' along with a better amp. ill get some better pics of it today or tomorrow, all the corners in the box were routered too to give air flow better.

isocompported.gif

thats what we worked off

it seems to work really well for a muck around box

Oh yes: I'm quite sure it works. I just thought you might benefit from the background and theory to build something even better.

One sure-fire way to fail, or be EXTREMELY lucky, is to just swap woofers. The box and the speakers, including any ports are intrinsically linked.

Here's the best resource for technical advice on all car hifi matters I've ever found: JL Audio Tech Support

And here's the stuff, with a second link at the end for info on isobaric enclosures: BOOM!

This should go back on topic and be about your car.

lol im loving you posts mate wasnt having a go any time i can learn i will. and it is technically about the car hee hee

hopgin to upgrade the fronts to some 6.5 components in alcatara trimmed pods. to match the interior better amp and then the JL 8" in the box with tweaks if i need to

I like them, certainly as quick as a 1.9 usually.

Found a load of old tickets from Santa Pod yesterday. 15.4 SQM from my old 106 Gti in road trim, road tyres. Was particularily healthy everytime it went on a rolling road too.

Whites a bit unusual for a 106 Gti, but have to say I like it a lot.

Cracking little engines, and handling is top notch. I've always preferred them (as standard cars) to 205s, just a bit girlier.

i know they go on about 205 handling but i would rather drive this one in anger than the 205 just seems to stick alot better

I bought my graphite grey 205 from Paul and saw his 106 while I was there. I'd never seen a 106 in white before, and I have no idea why there isn't more of them, as it looked lovely!

I love 106 GTi's...white looks awesome :P

With a simota style induction kit and a decent exhaust system (incl manifold) like you have they really fly.

In my experience I don't think a 8v 205 (with similar mods) would see which way one went on track
