Recommended Posts

autograsser

as i do a restricted class racing and i really only use 1st and 2ndgear should i go for a be1 box with a 4.1 dif or a be3 box with a 3.93??

i got a program tha calculates speeds and it recons the 3.93 will be 3mph faster. just wanna get some peoples thoughts who run these boxes?? oh and its a 1.6 gti (standard engine car striiped)

cheers

You'd need to tell us more to get a decent idea of what you want.

What sort of speed do you want to do? And do you want this to be contained within the 2 gears?

ok then i race round a muddy oval field and am after ideally a longer second gear!! but if as it seems thats not possible as they all seem to be 1.86 then id like to be able to go as fast as possible in 2nd and get there as quick as possible, am i asking for to much

the 4.1 diff will allow you to get to the speed faster although your top speed will be reduced!

If you regularly hit the rev limiter in second and going to third is wasting you time it seems you have two choices:

1 - get a lower final drive meaning the max speed in 1st and 2nd is higher, effectively making more use of 1st (which I would imagine is a bit too short to be ideal even in the tightest of corners)

2 - get a higher final drive and have the opportunity to use 3rd gear as well. I believe this is a more common choice for rallying. Only the tightest of corners would need 1st though.

If most of your competitors are using 1st and 2nd and you are hitting the rev limiter then I would try the BE3 with the 3.93 final drive. It will make slightly better use of 1st gear (where grunt is plentyful and traction is your main problem), sacrifice a bit of low down grunt of 2nd but will give a higher max speed without having to go to 3rd.
