To answer the first question of "Why?" my reply is "Why not?"

After driving my Audi TDI estate about I am not used to people wanting to race me. On completing my red 205 overhaul and starting to use it I am flabbergasted at the amount of people that want to blow me away, and slightly frustrated at the percantage of the aforementioned that are able to do so!

Therefore I hatched a cunning plan to foil their efforts, have a little fun building something, and use up a few bits I have knocking about.

First of all take one unsuspecting red 205 GTI 1.6

Untitled by Tom Fenton, on Flickr

Next add one cheap second hand B6E low compression 1.6 GTI engine (£40)

205T by Tom Fenton, on Flickr

Purchase a GTI6 flywheel from the forum for £10, and add a used XSI clutch from "stock"

205T by Tom Fenton, on Flickr

Then buy a Mi16 crank sensor from the psooc forum, £8

205T by Tom Fenton, on Flickr

The whole idea is to make a sleeper to be able to blow away the repmobiles who keep picking on me, so an atmo dump valve would give the game away. Hence buy a 406 turbo recirc DV off ebay for £8

205T by Tom Fenton, on Flickr

As I am struggeling to ensure sufficient grip for my 205 S16 turbo, my devious plan is to convert it to 4x4 using PSA components only. So in short the details are:

reinforced 4x4 drivedrain: strnger rivets and splines in the center gearbox and stronger flanges for the centershaft.

I will modify a BE3/6 gearbox and add the centerdiff to this housing - enabling 6 speed and higher rear ratio.

should be fun :-)

anyway please find a couple of Pictures to get it all started :-)

Since I bought my first 205 back in -99 I have dreamt about a 205 Mi16. It's now time to make that dream come true.

It all started this summer when I found a non sunroof 205 to the right price.

I hade own the car in one day when I started to modify it. The idea is that it should be a road legal track car.

Hi all, I have finally decided to start a thread on here detailing my track car build. As you can see from the title it is not a 205 but a 405! I know it isn't a 205, but it is still a Peugeot! Hopefully some of you will be interested in what I have to put up on here. I was intending to have it finished for Pugfest this year, but I am still way off hopefully next year though!

The idea started about 3 years ago when my Mi16x4 decided to blow both crank shaft oil seals. It had had loads of little niggling problems (like complete brake failure in the outside lane of the M4!!), and I decided enough was enough. I took it off the road and left it to sit for a few months while I made up my mind what to do next.

The first idea was to try and make it rear wheel drive and turn it into some sort of drift beast (having the transmission tunnel already in the car would have helped). However this would have meant using a non-Peugeot engine and quite extensive modification of the engine bay. I wanted to keep the car as original as possible so I ruled this out.

So a track/race car it was. I started by stripping it out completely and removing the engine etc.. I started off the work by making a jig that would allow me to turn the shell through 360°. I bought some box section and welded it up (my first ever attempt at welding – hence it was a bit rough!). It did the job and allowed me access to the underside of the car so I could remove all the underseal.

At last I'm putting up a post about my ongoing project, well it's been spread out over several other posts, so best to start on scratch I guess

The car was bought as a stripped-out rolling shell in june 2004.

My plans had always been to build a special engine for it, of course with Mi16 head.

First I was planning to use the alloy block, but as time went by my plans also changed.

Why not go iron block and overbore it a bit, and get a stroker crank?

Well, that was exactly what I ended up with.

Project actually started with me buying a set of Jenvey throttlebodies in januar 2002.

In the beginning the whole project actually was concentrated about making the engine, and I didn't really spend much time thinking of the car itself, didn't get the shell until later, summer 2004 (as mentioned before).

After a while I sourced myself a XU10J4R engineblock with oil-squirters, only the very first XU10J4R's actually got them.

Then found some ok pistons in the Wiseco catalogue and ordered those, had already decided to go with custom rods so would just grab some pistons of my preferred bore of 88mm, and order the rods so that the pistons would fit fine

The wiseco pistons had to be modified with new valve-pockets, pistons were ment for Chrystler Neon 16v, the pockets that was there wasn't too much off, but had to make some bigger and a little deeper cutouts to clear my pumaracing 36.5mm valves.

Piston with new valve-pockets

The rods was ordered custom with BMW E30 big end, and small end to suit my pistons. Length of the rods are 156mm.

This is how they turned out, looks nice.

The big ends of the crank was ground to 47.5mm diameter to extend the stroke from the standard 92mm of the XU11D crank, to 94.5mm. Using undersize E30 BMW big end bearings everything fits perfect.

With these modifications to the engineblock, 88mm bore and 94.5mm stroke it gives me the nice amount of 2299cc's dislacement volume

I got a 3 layer stainless steel headgasket from cometic, 1.3mm thick as they were the only supplier of 88mm bore XU gaskets I could find. I had to grind the gasket to 88.5mm bores due to my pistons protruding 0.3mm over block-deck @TDC, so to avoid any collision I did this to be on the safe side.

Headgasket on top of another Mi16 head.

I used a standard Mi16 head as base for the project, and this was dropped off to my local enginebuilder for porting and new valve-stems, regrinding of seats and of course for fitting the big valves.

Picture of head after it's finished, mounted with mech-lifter catcams.

For exhaust I bought a 309 GTi16 manifold of someone on the forum, can't really remember who at the moment. I believe this manifolds have nice lenghts on the runners and have seen it before on a Norwegian 205 that made 230bhp with it. Therefor I hope it will be able to work really good with my setup too.

Due to me using the iron block, I had to modify the collector part of the manifold a bit. The standard flange would sit too close to the bulkhead, so I bought some 2.5" stainless V-band flanges and clamps on eBay. Chopped off the standard flange and welded on the V-band. Also made a downpipe which I welded a flexible pipe onto to take up vibrations.

A couple of pictures:

http://projects.205gtidrivers.com/albums/b...ne/CIMG1123.jpg

http://projects.205gtidrivers.com/albums/b...ne/CIMG1122.jpg

Earlier I also had spent quite some time test-mounting the rotating-parts of the engine, and made sure I had enough valve-valve and valve-piston clearance. Actually the valve-valve clearance was a bit on the tight side, so had to return the head to my enginebuilder and we cut the seats 1mm deeper to make it all a bit safer.

Now it was time to assemble the block for the last time.

Crankshaft mounted and torqued down main bearing caps.

Pistons and rods in place.

Oil pump mounted, ready to accept the sump

Then at last after the block and gearbox was mounted in the car I could put the head on and torque it down.

Didn't take any pictures of that, but here's one on a later stage when it was just ready to be started for the first time.

I'm pleased with how the engine turned out in the bay, trying to get a clean install here

Appreciate any comments, and I guess this post should be moved into the project forum!

That was all for tonight

BTW: Almost forgot, you can see more pics from the enginebuild process here:

hi ,i have just joined the forum and thought i`d share my 4 year project with everybody. i have built a 4x4 205 using 405 4x4 runnig gear, the engine is an all steel internals, mi16 1.9 alloy block with a gti6 head ,48 jenvys, cat cams . The spec list is endless ,power figures are between 250-270bhp at 9200rpm.

Hi folks,

Been cracking on with my MI conversion recently, but as usual when you start these things, one job leads to another and you end up doing EVERYTHING!

Anyway a bit of background:

Car was my daily driver, gave up the ghost about 3 months ago due to excessive engine movement pulling the wires off the alternator! Sat on my drive in Surrey for a while looking sad for itself before i got it home (to the 'rents) just over a month ago to start getting her back into shape.

Problems were:

Engine mounts knackered,

Beam knackered,

Brakes shot,

4 pretty much bald tyres,

Wiring was 'interesting' (previous owners bodgefest!)

Engine was on its way out (bottom end)

Diff had collapsed (although it had been like that the whole year i was driving it!)

Rad leaking,

Suspect rust,

Interior seen better days,

Front passenger headlamp panel needed straightening due to front impact (not on my time!),

Driveshafts rumbling,

Cant think of anything else.

As you can probably tell she was a bit of a minter, so i set to work! List of jobs:

Toss away 205 beam and replace with fully rebuilt 309 GTI item with grp A mounts,

New discs/pads all round,

Full phase 2 interior including black carpet,

Rewire some bits, esp speakers as they seemed to only work when they fancied it,

New front Gaz coilover units with eccentric top mounts (may be a few weeks yet),

Phase 2 exterior trim,

Replace passenger door lock (it had been removed and smoothed over, but i wanted a totally original look outside),

Respray engine bay and sort out any rust,

Toss away 8v motor for MI-16 running full Motronic 1.3 loom and 1.6 'box with new Valeo clutch,

New engine mounts,

New driveshafts,

New radiator,

Better condition steering rack,

Short shifter kit (homebrew-welders are damn useful!),

Fit full stainless Scorpion exhaust,

Get new Pirellis (4 tyres for free-im a jammy sod! ) on wheels,

General clean of whole car,

Eventually respray outside of car (wanna get her on the road 1st tho!)

Anyway heres the pics so far (couple of pages of them), ive got further than this (subframe repainted and in, loom half done), will get some pics monday!

Silver GTI-16

Particularly pleased with how the engine bay turned out, especially considering the condition before! The rust below the brake servo seems quite common, due mainly to spillage/leaking master cylinders, and the brake fluid laying in the corner and eating away the paint etc. So watch out on all of yours peeps!

Ive listed all the jobs, not all strictly body, interior and ice, but it seemed the most relevant section for a restoration sorta thing...Alot of the work is cosmetic anyway as i can be a bit of a detail freak when i wanna!

More pics as progress is made, should have uber shiny engine pics one day next week!

Cheers,

Dan.

Hi guys

I thought it was time i started a project thread and made myself known on here. Not really a big poster on forums as i dont get chance, ill try and make more time!

I have been doing track days for 6 years now starting off with a s1 106 xsi with a 16v engine fitted. A few years past and i wanted more power so decided to supercharged it. I spent the best part of 2 years building the car to the spec i wanted.

The xsi

Half way through the build i also bought this

The car was built by a mate with my help a few years previous to my project. He managed to find a fully track prepped shell that only needed an engine. He didn't want to go down the old mi/gti-6 route because he wanted something different. In the end decided on a 206 GTI 180 (EW10J4S) engine and found 1 that had covered only 500 miles when lifted from the 206. Im fairly certain it was the first 205 with this engine fitted, we contacted various peugeot tuning companies for info and all said it couldn't be done. To start with we had it running on the standard ecu and multiplex wiring which wasn't ideal. We then ditched that and ran it on a omex 100 and carbs (yes thats an engine with variable valve timing and carbs ) It produced a healthy 197 bhp and 155lb/ft, we were over the moon. The smiles soon wore off so its back in the garage for cams, TB's and omex 500. This next setup made 202bhp and 161 lb/ft, not much gain for the money spent but it drove so much better and idled like a standard car.

After a couple of years and plenty of trackdays my mate decided it was time for a house. So much of my own time and effort went into the car i couldn't resist buying it. I was half way through my 106 project at the time and kept at it for another year. Having such a good all round track car i always had doubts in my mind wether the 106 could be a match for the 205, deep down i knew it wouldn't. I decided to break the 106 and keep a few of the good parts.

In the last 2 years i have owned the car its had a full respray, a few extra sets off wheels and just general tidy up. It may be a track car but its my aim to keep it mint, the shell was dry stored for a number of years be for my mate bought it so not single bit of rust any where.

How it looked after the respray

At the end of summer 2011 i decided to strip the car down and rebuild everything. That included fitting the parts that i kept after breaking the 106.

New parts are

Rotrex c30 94 supercharger

Omex 600

Omex race loom

Cobra suzuka pro buckets

Sabelt 6 point harnesses

FSE adjustable FPR

Siemans 660cc injectors

Forge alloy rad

Forge intercooler

Mocal oil cooler

Weber AFR gauge

More to come soon

well, it was about time i started a radical project really .

the project is now well under way, but i've really not had any spare time to properly post about it,

but now the time has come and i will quickly bring you back up to spec as the cold weather is not

really allowing for any serious work to be carried on the car anymore. i am going to present the

work in a few seperate phases as it has been / will be done in.

i am not going to hide "the juicy details" and things that have had a lot of mental energy put into, in order

to make it harder for other people to replicate. instead, i'm going to show every single documented step

to inspire and make it easier for anyone interested in doing the same type of project in the future!

first a little bit of background - the car started life as a 1987 205 1.6 GTI, my father bought it in 1997

after years and years of us daydreaming of having a 205 GTI one day . after a while when we got

used to the performance, we were sad it was only a 1.6 and not a stronger 1.9. but since i bought a 1.9

to replace my 1.6 (that we also got in 1998 or 1999) and after seeing a dutch story on Mi16 conversion,

we sat our heart on the Mi16. we had finally found a good engine and did the swap in the late 2000 (iirc).

the next logical step was to start using the car properly, which meant stripping it out, installing a custom

roll cage in, upgrading the brakes to the large 283mm Xsara VTS setup, replacing 205's suspension with

a complete set of 309 GTI's and only making a short gearbox with custom ratios. father then started

racing in hillclimb and trackracing championship as well as autoslaloms in 2002.

to cut the story short, after several years of actively participating in nearly every race and wining quite

a few trophies, that excercise had to come to the end, in 2005. we were left with a car that had seen

better days and needed a lot of work to be brought back up to it's former glory.

at the same time, the local StreetRace (drag racing) scene had started actively developing and got our

attention, so after some (read: a lot!) of thoughts and discussion, we came to a conclusion that our

205 Mi16 would be a perfect candidate... for something radical! it came down to an idea i've had about

5 years ago - the twin engine setup! back then it sounded really stupid and impossible and made me think

Turbo + 4wd was the way to go (hence why i got my 405 T16) but in early 2006 we started thinking about

the twin engine conversion very seriously!

Well this bog was started on a welding site a while back which is where someone called matt (from Sheffield) spotted it and informed me about you guys on here.. (I`ve read the for a while as its full of techy wisdom but only recently joined and figured I`d run you through the work so far and keep things updated on here…. I`ve noticed a few familiar faces from OLD pgac days and a few other sites but for those that don’t know me… I`m stu.. a 30 miserable sod from Cambridgeshire…. HELLO!!

So this first instalment will be copied over so bear with me if it doesn’t scan perfectly.. here goes!!!

THE RATTLEBOX!!

despite being old enough to know better i`m having a go at putting together a 106 for a few track days and maybe a bit of hill climbing/sprinting..

i`ve owned the car for a few years and had done a few things.. rollcage/suspension/changed the roofskin as the leaky french sunroof became too much.. converted it to run on yamaha R6 carburettors and it was a giggle on the back roads but during my ownership i`d noticed the dreaded rust appearing here and there so decided to go for broke and attempt to get the ol girl up to a higher standard....

first up was a spit:

this should make scraping/welding at awkward angles a bit easier/comfier..

initial scraping went well and early signs were good...

but then....

ROT...

i had an inkling there was something amiss with the drivers side chassis rail and inner arch but after the affected stuff was cut out i realised i had some patching to do!!

first job was to replace the chassis rail as i was getting worried about it giving way on the spit:

after a bit of whacking it was in... then i realised i needed to put the "crumple zone" creases in it... now i`m not sure if this is the correct method but...

some heat and some healthy whacks with the ball pein resulted in..

next up... the inner wing...

decided to do this in 2 bits...

once TIG`d up i was (fairly) happy with the repair......

Allright, as can be read here I've bought a '88 Peugeot 309 Turbo Cup car.. It's a very unique car, there's only 1 in The Netherlands as far as I've ever known and I think that there are about 10 left in France..

On the following pictures you can see how they were in the past, '88 - '91..

I've bought the car from a guy who owned it for 6 -7 years.. It has always been in a shed.. Except for the first 9 months or so that he owned it.. He has bought it from a french guy, where it also has been in a shed..

the car is in very good condition, very little rust.. We think that there only has been driven 3 years with this car.. From '88 until '91..

Soon it will come to me, 11-07-2009.. And then I can finally go work on my "dream-309".. I've seen such a car ones before in my life.. And I loved it right away..

The car comes with:

- Group A PTS frontshocks with camberplates.

- Group A PTS rearshocks.

- 315 mm frontbrakes.

- Polyester bumpers and tailgate.

- Polycarbon side-windows.

- Speedline SL341 PTS rims (15" x 7")

- and a lot more..

It's also fully seamwelded..

Example:

It became a very light-weight car because it's missing some parts:

- no elektric windows.

- no locks.

- no central doorlocking.

- no headlights.

- no turnsignals.

- no rear wiper.

- no heater

- single front wiper.

Result: 770 - 780 kg..

So far the story.. Soon it will continu..

Here are some pictures of the car.. There from last week.. 03-06-2009..

Hi everyone!

A car that i bought in 2007 in Poland during my medical studies. It is a CTI from 1992, with a electric roof. I fell in love with it immediately and just had to have it. This one turned out to be a little project.

Hi all,

This 205 started its life as a phase 1 d-plate 1.6 gti non-sunroof. The car had been stood in a kids driveway for years as he wanted it for the engine. I did a deal with him and took the engine out and fitted it to his other car in exchange for the rolling shell.

I took the car back to my work, stripped it bare, spent hours removing all the underseal, had it sand blasted and welded in a rollcage, this is how it looked:-

Ok going to do a build thread on my 205 we are in the middle of building for the beginning of next year.

Alot of folk will have seen it this year anyway but i have recently stripped it down to a bare shell to undergo alot of work due to the engine that will be going in it this time .

Going to start off when i first got it to the stage it is at now this will be a on going thread for the next few months as it gets built from start to finish and all in house.

i have started a new thread as the direction of my project has changed and im shelving that specific idea of twin charging an XU10 lump. to take its place i have decided to go for a twin turbo route, something i haven't seen done before on a 205.

just to catch up, the shell that will be used for this project started life as a 1.1, soon after it came into my possession it received a 1.9 8v which was rebuild. after a few track days a few issues where highlighted. handling and lack of power.

the 1.9 was turbo'd with a hybrid t3/tb25 turbo and ran very well on mega squirt managment.

the cars current spec is:

1.9 turbo megasquirt managment

avo gtx coilovers

266mm front brakes

compbrake brake bias box

309 rear beam with rear discs

diy cage

various other bits that ive forgotten.

over the next few weeks we are looking to achieve

2.05l twin turbo with forged pistons and rods, gt42 and t4/t3 hybrid on the turbocharger side and cat cams turbo billets. again on megasquirt management

custom cages multipoint (waiting on delivery)

seam welded chassis

custom dash

spec to conform with fia/msa regs for hillclimbs and rally

Hi everyone, ive been registered on the forums for a while now, mostly reading around and admiring a lot of the great projects that various members are currently undertaking. I thought it was long overdue that I post up some details of my ongoing efforts.

I used to own a very nice 106 GTi with all the right bits and a healthy engine that provided much entertainment for a number of years. I'd spent a fair amount getting it to a stage I was happy with and also enjoyed several trackdays. I'm fairly fortunate in that several good mates have/had some excellent Peugeot 205s/309s which id been able to drive on numerous occassions. It is, as a direct result of these experiences that I knew I needed to own one sooner rather than later. The idea was that the car would be centred around some well chosen suspension components with a reliable, unstrained engine/gearbox. After numerous discussions with Sandy we decided that a 309 would be the perfect starting point, powered by....yes another Honda engine - this time the UK Civic Type R. This combination would afford me a fantastic chassis, with a reliable 197bhp standard along with a close ratio 6spd box + that VTEC noise and revvy nature!!

I then set about selling the 106 whilst commencing tha hunt for the ideal base car. I was looking for a 3dr, non sunroof shell, in white ideally, and with as little rust as possible. I came across this beauty tucked away in Crediton:

E reg, 3dr, non sunroof, white, minimal rust, base model etc...

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A.../clean309_2.gif

1.3 G1A beast and still going very strong:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...09/G1A_unit.gif

The car was going to be a trackday/weekend toy so I set about stripping the car completely of all unecessary trim and the old engine/gbox:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...s_front_end.gif

A fairly clean engine bay!!

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...front_dirty.gif

Interior partially removed:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...or_stripped.gif

A quick inspection of the arches and engine bay paint(under the grime) revealed the car to be in pretty good shape, apparently the early 309's had a lot of paint on them!

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...h_potential.gif

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...9/potential.gif

With the engine/interior removed I began looking for an engine and gearbox, cable shifters, d/shafts, engine loom and mounts. I managed to locate a 2003 engine with an advertised 30k on it:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...309/k20a2_2.gif

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...309/k20a2_3.gif

The gearbox/ d/shafts I found were less than 5k old:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...09/CTR_box2.gif

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...309/CTR_box.gif

As im no welder I needed to find someone with the necessary skills to fabricate the mounts for the engine and box. Old Eeyore aka Colin Satchell was the obvious choice and having seen some of his work on previous visits to his workshops, I knew it was in safe hands. I gave the car a bit of a clean and then it was off up to Colin's for its new heart:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...ront2_clean.gif

Several weeks passed then the news came through that it was all done. To say I was pleased with the results would be a mahooosive understatement. Looks rather at home in there:

Cable shifter through the bulkhead / reworked CTR downpipe:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...1_engine_in.jpg

The cable shift gearbox allowed great flexibility in terms of where the shifter would be mounted. We thought just to the left of the steering wheel, BTCC stylee would be rather nice

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...yle_shifter.jpg

I also had the rear turreted:

The car then came home in Dec 2006, yes thats right Dec 2006 and its still not finished lol. During the next few months I spent time doing a lot of work on the underside of the car removing the visible rust patches and discovering numerous other areas that would require treatment. The panel behind the front bumper had actually gone through into the arch. Lots of grinding / sanding / sikaflex and a few small aluminium plates later the underside and arches were in good shape:

Original underseal removed in readiness for keying and painting:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...eal_removal.jpg

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...al_removal2.jpg

The boot floor was quite badly corroded, so I spent many hours grinding that back to shiny metal then applied a coat of epoxy undercoat:

Still needs another coat and then gloss topcoat but its all protected for the time being.

As with all long term projects they tend to evolve over time and the 309 was no exception to this rule. Colin had a 205 bolt in cage at his workshop that was going spare and the opportunity arose to have it adpated/welded in, along with a few extras. I decided it was the perfect time to 'stretch that budget' and have it fitted. I was once again rather pleased with the results:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...9/door_bars.jpg

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A.../caged_rear.jpg

Tasty bit of gusseting:

Steering column brace:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...olumn_brace.jpg

Again I went through a spell of lacking motivation to work on the car in the evenings / weekends so progress slowed. Over the last few weeks however, with the weather improving and it not being so bloody cold in the garage ive been beavering away! I removed the remainder of the rust in the front arches / sealed them, then undercoated them:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk153/A...h_undercoat.jpg

Over the last week ive been working on the interior, getting all the surface rust back to bare metal in preperation for spraying over the easter weekend. Me and a friend spent a solid two days on it this weekend sanding, degreasing, masking etc. I couldnt afford to have a bodyshop do the spraywork so decided to get hold of a gun and a 205 boot filling compressor, and have a go at it myself. After getting the car all ready for spraying I began only to find the company that supplied the paint hadnt given me anywhere near enough primer to do 2 good coats, infact not even enough for 1 (despite me specifying exactly what I was spraying). I carried on despite this and gave all the bare metal a light coat to prevent all our hard prep work going to waste! The logistics of setting up a compressor, mixing the paint, adjusting the gun proved quite a challenge but im pleased with it so far:

Should keep rust at bay until I can get more paint and finish it:

Reasons being..

1 - I don't want a sunroof or blanked hole.
2 - The bodywork and paint is beyond tatty and I'd quite like the new one to look a bit more professional.
3 - I'd be removing the cage to be replaced with a T45 one, which is a lot of work and may cause some damage to the shell. There's also some issues with rust on the underside - explained below.
4 - I'd be fitting a Dimma or similar kit to it for the extra track width, which will involve cutting out or replacing the arches, so a base model shell is more suitable anyway.
5 - Probably most importantly, I need to raise some money to buy all the bits I need!

I think sometime over the winter I'll tear it all apart and sell the bits I won't need. I'm not overly keen on selling the main part of the shell though as I think it needs a fair bit of attention paid to rust on the underside where, frustratingly, I hadn't painted it properly after doing all the shell mods a few years ago. I may be able to sort it out so it's suitable for sale, but will have to investigate further. I'll be keeping some bits such as the engine, wheels, front brakes and a couple of interior bits, but the rest will be going.

It's a bit of an extreme decision but I'm actually feeling very positive about it, I have my eyes on a couple of suitable base models for sale too.

[project] 405 Mi16 Drift/track Car

Right people I need your advice on a few things.

Me and a friend are going to build a rear wheel drive 405 Mi16. I know it's probably going to be a bit expensive and an engineering challenge but I really want a track/drift car, I have some money to spend and I love Mi16's. But I want the fun of a rear wheel drive car.

So the plan is to buy a fwd Mi16 and strip it. Seam weld the chassis, weld in a larger transmission tunnel, and get a full cage welded in. Once that is done the tricky bit starts. I have a complete spare 4x4 drive train, and what I intend to do is get the transfer box modified to deliver all the torque to the rear. I'll also get the transfer splines shaft uprated as eventually I want to turbo the car so I want to make sure it can cope.

I want a fwd donor car as it has normal rear suspension, (unless the mounting points for the fwd rear beam and 4x4 rear sub-frame are the same - can someone tell me if they are, as then I will look for a 4bie donor car). I can't see the hydraulic suspension of a 4bie being reliable on track, and it adds a lot of weight. The first question is, can I fit 4x4 rear hubs to the fwd car? Also I would need to build a custom diff mount, but I'm not sure if the standard torsen diff off the 4x4 can cope with 200+ hp? Can anyone tell me what it is rated up to? I guess rebuilding this will be expensive, so was thinking of getting a ford or similar rear diff and get custom drive shafts and prop to fit.

I want to get the car weighing less than a ton, preferably nearer to 900kgs, which I hope will be possible.

Like I said I am serious about doing this project, and we'll hopefully have the donor car bought and stripped this week. I'm expecting it to take about a year to complete, and having two people to share the work/cost should make a less painful experience. I will overcome the engineering difficulties, but if anyone can offer any advice up front it would be much appreciated.

Thank you all!

Well, i took my 1.6 gti off the road for a bit of Restoration, after renting a new garage which is bigger and has lighting i

could see it was time to do it properly so started stripping the car to sort the bodywork.(i got carried away)

My attention will be mostly the bodywork, brakes, handling and performance lol while keeping the standard look both inside and out so heres a few pics of my garage and what Ive done so far.

more rust!!

what is that hole for? French

RUST!! The floor was soaking when i lifted the carpet, someone had siliconed a paint tin lid over that hole in pic 6 which is where the problem started i think.

Its also had a dink on the passenger side with a bit of under seal and a new wing!! looks OK tho.

My next step is sandblasting or wire wheel on a drill to remove the rust i haven't deiced what root to take yet.

your opinions welcome

My thoughts are to take the rust off myself to bare metal and clean the whole shell with thinners or something to remove all the dirt and crap, then patch prime the bare metal with red oxide just to protect it until it goes in for spraying. so in the end the sprayer with have a nice clean shell to start on

Then paint, red oxide primer( u-pol), high build primer ?? then original Peugeot white, although it will be left to someone who knows what there doing

The hardest bit was removing that rear bumper every bolt rounded or snapped, but apart from that so far so good. It took me a while to trust my axle stands going under the car, but not aslong as it took me to get the car on em.!!

Ive been looking at plastic die for my dash and body trim, has anyone used this before? forever black

Theres alot of very useful threads and people on here that hopefully can drag me out the sewer!!

So can anyone recommend a bodyshop to take out the work, needs to be fairly close as Ive got to trailer it there now!!!

will keep you updated,

thanks Dave

Hello.

Some pics of whats happeinig to my "never ending" 205 prosject.

Gearbox out to mount Quaife LSD and new gear linkage, like GpA ones.

I'm converting to Webers, here is first mounting aftet the inlet manifoil has been grinded for best airspeed/match my inlet ports:

I desided to work out a carbon box for air intake, and made a cast(form) in aluminium and moulded two layers of carbonfibre in it. This is the result after some grinding and a few layers of coating.

To get enginebay more tidy, I bought some fittings froms Earls Plumbing, and some feet of braided hose:

To use this fittings it's nessesary to make nippels to suit, several places. Here thermostat housing with AN12 nipple ready.

Breather tank, made from alu. Here are the parts:

After hours of polishing. Quite shiny now:

Next on program is cutting hose and mount the fittings.
