[project] 205 4x4 Mi16/gti6 Conversion

Firstly: Amazing, amazing build!

Second: Woah, those BX front calis are odd!

Basically just 1.9/306 rear calis with extra big pad carriers as far as I can see...might be worth looking into...

What gear linkage are you using, it looks like something from the 405 set up in one of the pictures.

Most of the gear setup is from the 405, but the gear lever is my own custom made stainless steel short shifter which i had to make because of the height of the tunnel. The linkage rods on the gearbox are uprated balljoint`s with pins through so they dont pop off like the standard item`s tend to.

Superb project there! If I had the funds and skills I would love to do that to my car! Who did the cage for you or did you build it yourself??

Have you used it in anger yet? how's the 405 transfer box holding up? did you do anything prior to fiting t to beef it up to handle the extra power?

Got my rear brakes sorted today  using the 1.9 hubs on the rear with the the standard rear calipers, 306 rear pads and some front disks from a 205 1.1 standard 205 cables. The disks are 10mm thick instead of 8mm they have the correct diameter and centre hole to fit the front hubs. the disk sits pretty much in the centre of the caliper and the sliders still have the correct amount of movement. the cables are quite close to the hub where the pinch bolt goes through but with a custom bracket it fits ok. Hope this can be of help.

From the photos it looks like your rear dif is solid mounted, what sort of noise and vibration do you get from it?

Paul.

not had chance to give it the full throttle yet ,been busy with work and moving house. With neal closing down des developements i never got him to do the final mapping on my engine, so i`m in the process of finding someone to do it for me. i haven`t started the car in five month`s.

As for the transfer box and gearbox me and neal (des developements) tried a few ideas modding it with no effect , so we finally decided that a good set of second hand item`s would be ok as long as i don`t try to set off at full throttle. our theory is with the car been alot ligther than the 405 it hasn`t got to move as much weight so it will in effect put less strain on the transfer box and gearbox hopefully lasting alot longer or forever.don`t hold me to this as i`ve said i haven`t had time to try it out.

I hope your project goes well,as it will be a beast of a car once built,if you do come up with something for the transferbox and gearbox please would you let me know as this part of the build is the onlything i`m stuck on. if you need any help on anything on your build i will be happy to help.

Thank`s for letting me know about the rear brakes, think i`ll be trying it out.

My rear diff is solid mounted , there is no noise or vibration from it at all it did concern me at first but after driving it ,everything`s fine.

Thanks Mark. My rear diff is solid mounted as well and I'm going to take the car on the eurotrip and was concerned it was going to be too noisy. It will be on the road on the 1st of April  but only running the a standard 1,9 gti engine as Ive run out of time to build my 16v engine before the eurotrip  .

I didn't start the project until the second week in January so Its not up to the standard of yours yet.

It would be nice to see yours up close one day to see how you've done things, it looks top notch from what I can see from the photos you've posted.

WOW :(

What kinda cost has this car built up ?

Did you make the rear sub frame your self ?

I didnt know Des-developments has closed down !!

I seen a 205 with 405 4x4 running gear, i was told they cut the rear axle so it fits a standard 205, i wasn't keen on that idea

with welding the axle. I seen it at PSOOC in 2006.

Ah ! so thats where THAT engine was going ..Niel said it was for a customer UUPPP North ...funny your 10 miles from me ...

Ive just read through this from start to finish and as a valid customer with Niel-Dan and Moss i saw this engine being built down there when my 205 was in for its new MI16 engine build .

I think your reference to 220 horses engines built recently on a standard Mi16 head Casting is Possibly refering to mine and it did 219 Bhp and 178lb Torque at 7050 rpm's on my print out from there rolling road tune .

Car looks ballistic ..check out www.liverpoolmotorclub.com .hopefull see you at Aintree in may ..

Ps are you friendly with the Lads who go to aintree , there big Peugoet fans and one tells me he has lots of spares including T16 205 stuff ....

Funny how these cars turn up , i found out recently that a guy near me (2 miles away) has a geniune EVO 2 T16 ....

What a shame , however they are money pits and the Home comes first .

It will be a shame you couldnt have driven it before the sale at liest , that said many car builders and restororations provide much satisfaction in completing them alone.

Aintree is a trackday for us , there are some gorgeous cars there ..250 GTO and EX Works BMW M3 cars.
