Few more jobs done today. Swapped in a working SAD from farmer from here.

Put in a new Bosch ignition amplifier and a new fuel pump/tachometric relay.

Finally, fitted a brand new Bosch AFM!

Again tomorow morning will be the test to see if my cold start issues have been resolved, but so far the new AFM has sorted my high idle out, so I can run more advance on the ignition and it feels a fair bit more powerful, and the idle has settled down really nicely. Fingers crossed for tomorow!

Update - cold start issue still not resolved, still have to hold the throttle for a bit to get the revs to catch.

Went to a local garage and used the exhaust gas analyser, set CO to 1.5% so at least that is right.

Cold start problems must be a setup issue (throttle stop position or something) as AFM is brand new, throttle body and eveything is clean, SAD working as it should, new ECU temp sensor, new ignition amp and tachy relay etc. Still don't quite understand how to set eveything up properly so a decent setup will have to wait.

Where did you get the new AFM from in the end?

A mate of mine had one from which he sold to me for a pretty good price!

Cheapest price I could find online new was £300. Pricy!

Thanks matey for the kind words :). I'm a COMLPETE novice when it comes to cars but I try to do what I can but my ability is very limited when it comes to mechanicals. I'm struggling with my cold start issue and it's frustrating as that's one of the last things I need to get sorted!

When it comes to cleaning and polishing though thats a different matter as I'm decent at that hah hah.

No jobs this week aside from changing my SAD hose to a new silicone one from BakerBM. Interior is all done aside from my refurbed seats which are being fitted next weekend. Spent the evenings this week and weekend racking up some miles. Had a good run today and went to see a 1978 MG B, which my mate ended up buying today.

Yesterday had brand new brake pads all round (EBC Redstuff - much better performance than the standard pads).

Fitted a brand new GTI boot badge today, courtesy of PSCUK.net.

New refurbished seats being fitted tomorow morning (hopefully) - pics to follow!

Hope you don't mind me saying, but the leather looks quite bunched up/differently stretched in areas - is this what you're expecting to 'settle in' if/as the leather adapts?

Hoping thats the case! it does look better in the flesh than in the photos anyway :)

Ride height looks to have settled nicely. 185/55 tyres?

Few more jobs this week. Had my head skimmed and head gasket done. New refurbed throttle body. Had new standard brake pads put back on, and finally new complete lower arms both sides. All good aside from a rattle from cambelt area on certain revs. Need to investigate!

Another job this week, had a new steering rack put in, as it was still on the original and after 181K of miles, was past it's best.

Now to fix my drivers electric window which has decided not to work!

Nice job on that spoiler Mate

Don't know if Plasicare is the same as Plastidip paint?

The Aussie sun pretty much left the top on mine looking like road base, I went through the same process with wet and dry, then hit it with 6 very light coats

Turned out as close to new as you could hope for.

Might be worth a go if you feel keen enough to take it off again

Cheers

Cheers buddy. Don't think Plasticare is the same, Plasticare is a black liquid, which dyes the trim back to black. Awesome stuff. I usually then follow it up with Sonus Bumper Dressing, comes up lovely.

Today I fixed my drivers side electric window - needed a new motor/regulator. After much swearing and scraped knuckles, all done. Phew, just before the rain!
