[Misc_Work] Peugeot 205 Rallye, Engine Done...now Suspension!

I have just bought an Omex rev limiter sort out my low limit and just wanted some confirmation on whether I'm thinking of using the correct wires.

Omex has 3 wires, +ve coil, -ve coil and earth.

Looking at the wiring diagram and my coil there are 4 wires going to the coil

2 - 12V supply to coil

2A - +ve to ignition module

112A - Signal wire to coil from ignition module

112 - rev counter

So I should connect +ve from Omex to wire 2, -ve from Omex to 112A and earth to earth.

Does my thinking sound right?

Sounds right to me.

Just make sure the earth wire goes to a good ground somewhere.

BTW there are four wires going to the coil but the coil only has two terminals electrically speaking, the pins that 2 and 2A go to are common and the same for the pins that 112 and 112a go to so it is simpler than it looks.

Limiter fitted on the weekend and also a new rotor arm so it will now rev a bit higher. Only a few hundred rpm different but it does feel better!

New brakes time!

After the last track day it was obvious that some new brake pads and maybe discs were needed so I took the opportunity to upgrade the calipers at the same time. The setup I had was the standard base model calipers with ds2500 pads and good discs. This worked well but did tend to get a bit hot on track.

The new setup is a pair of 1.9 gti calipers (thanks Welshpug!), a pair of vented discs to go with them and some new ds2500 pads. Hoping to get it out this weekend to bed the pads in and see if there's any difference!

Quite a lot has happened to the car over the Christmas period. It started off by hearing that a family friend had started his own bodywork garage and was looking for work to do 'in-between' jobs.

I have never been happy with the finish on the bonnet and there was a bit of rust coming just below both rear windows and on the passenger door so I took the car up for a quote. After a bit of talking and deciding that if I was getting those bits done the rest wouldn't look as good, I had it booked in for a full re-spray! I didn't plan on this but the opportunity was too good to turn down!

Looking very bland in plain white!

Putting its new rallye bits on.

Got more stickers to put on and the inside needs a good clean after a lot of dust got in. Very happy with it though!

Hi all,

Had a great day last Saturday down at Pembrey with the 205, the weather was brilliant and the car didn’t miss a beat.

It has got me thinking though, how can I go faster?

Now I do love this car and it has taken a lot of effort to get it where it is now. It is currently running Bilstein B6’s on the front and challenge rear dampers. I am getting a lot of tyre wear on the outside edge and hardly anything on the inside – will adding some negative camber help this and possible give me more grip?

I have been thinking for a while about upgrading to the challenge fronts, but will I notice a sizeable difference? Or would it be worth biting the bullet and getting some coilovers and top mounts to get some negative camber? Then there’s the question of bottom arms…

The other dilemma I have at the moment is that the synchros in my 106 rallye gearbox are shot so need sorting, so while the box is out should I get it fitted with a diff?

I suppose another option would be for me to sell this car and then start from scratch to get a properly sorted 205 track car with a bit more power. Decisions decisions! I’m just trying to get all my thoughts down and maybe get a bit of advice before taking the next step.

I'd concentrate on the geometry and a diff before dampers.

For sorting the geometry, would adjustable bottom arms be the way to go or will 309 arms be enough? Does anyone still make rose jointed bottom arms?

Rose jointed arms for camber and adj top mounts to get more caster. Be very careful with driveshaft lengths once you start moving things.

Can you get adjustable top mounts for the standard type struts? They all seem to state for coilover use only.

I'll try and get some adjustable bottom arms and see how they go!

No, you will need to use a coilover, the extra caster is well worth the outlay, as you then gain camber in turn.

are your b6's the inverted type or just the 22mm shaft?

if the former then you can easily convert to a small diameter spring with a weld on threaded sleeve after removing the 6" oem spring pan.

to a certain extent you can contol geometry with a small increase in spring rate.

I don't know for sure but I don't think they are the inverted type. I also don't know the age of them as I had them 2nd hand a few years ago, so might be worth changing them anyway.

Where can I get rose jointed bottom arms? I have spotted the combrake 1s but also found the threads saying to stay away from them!

Well I'd finally had enough of crunching into 1st and 2nd so decided it was time to get the gearbox out. It only took a few hours and I had the box dropped off at a local gearbox specialist to have a look. They did a brilliant job of turning it around in a day at a very resonable price! To quote the garage 'I could do these boxes in my sleep I've done so many!'.

While the box was off I decided to put some 309 GTI bottom arms and 309 length shafts on. This will give me a bit more camber and hopefully start to use more of the tyre!

All back up and running now ready for Castle Combe and Curborough this month! If I had known it was this easy to sort the gearbox I would have done it a long time ago!

Quick update after Combe...I love camber!

I thought that the 309 arms would make a bit of difference but its night and day better. So much more grip.

Hopefully find some time to give it a good clean before Curborough this weekend.

First time at Curborough last Sunday with the PSCUK, great little track although the lack of warm up laps mean cold tyres make it very interesting!

Cheers, these were front 309 bottom arms. A very good, fairly easy upgrade for track!

noticing that your car is a rhd rallye, are your rear archs cut to fit the euro rallye archs?

Nope - I have been affraid to cut them just incase I ever want to go back to standard. I don't get any rubbing with the current ride height and 14" wheels so not really an issue.
