  1. Need help urgently. I am in Germany trying to ship my 1.9 GTI to the US. It is a German vehicle first registered 5 Oct 1990 and is importable to the US based on the 25-year old rule. The US Dept of Transportation is giving me a hard time because they can't decode the VIN and want a build date/date of manufacture. Can anyone tell me if I can find the date of manufacture on the car itself? Or help me decode the VIN? VF320CDK224080228. Can someone see if it's in Service Box? I used to have access to Service Box and used it lots in the past for part numbers but haven't been able to access the site in 6 months or so. The site says my country is not configured. Thank you for your help.
  2. Dear All, My VIN has been obscured by some patches of rust, which have blotted out several characters of the number. Obviously, I want to remove and treat this rust as best possible (before my respray) and stop it getting any worse. However, I can't just strip/grind the rust away without it looking like I have deliberately tampered with the VIN. What are my options here? Will I have to take it to a main dealer and have a repair properly recorded? I don't even know if it's a requirement to have that number on the vehicle, as the identity plate clearly shows the same number. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Mike

    205 Gti Vin Confusion

    Hello, there, My first post here in this forum. First of all, thanks for having this place so that people like us can get together and share! Currently I'm looking at a 1992 205 GTI 1.9, which has a VIN VF320CDK425051934. I tried using some VIN decoders on web, some said VIN unidentified, some said it is a 954cc auto 205!! So I'm totally confused about what car I'm actually looking at. Does anyone know how I could decode the VIN? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
