mmt 14 Posted September 18, 2017 Hi guys Which grade steel is reccomendable for bolts for the wishbones? 8.8 or 12.9?
dcc 855 Posted September 18, 2017 Iirc they arent overly tight, and i think mine were 10.9 - i wouldnt go as low as 8.
mmt 14 Posted September 18, 2017 I was actually thinking of going lower in order for the bolts to snap in case of impact rather than tough bolts bending rather than breaking of? Race only
Kane 34 Posted September 18, 2017 (edited) Higher grade material is more brittle so more susceptible to shearing than bending in a heavy impact. It may be worthwhile considering sacrificial brackets instead as the material strength is potentially lower if mild steel. welshpug 1,621 Posted September 18, 2017 I'd imagine the lower balljoint to break or the arm to bend, or the subframe itself, before the inner bolts do
jackherer 543 Posted September 18, 2017 That's correct, I've got a wishbone that is bent like a banana following a crash but the bolts and the balljoint were fine.
