On initial inspection a lot of the components don't actually look to bad. Covered in oil and grease but not especially rotten. Water and oil pipes in the main look pretty healthy.

I'd intended to replace a lot of it but Now I'm thinking clean it all up and see what can be reused.

Further stripping of the car this week. Its pretty much a rolling shell now. The cause of all the footwell water has finally been identified.

Pretty substantial rot in both corner of the scuttle panel

Here she is at the moment, planned for the next week is the removal of the remaining running gear which will be taken off to be cleaned, shot blasted and repainted.

I have always been 100% convinced the car had been resprayed at some point prior to my ownership (I've had it since 2011) but the paint guy at the workshop says it hasn't. Very surprised.

The shell is being mounted onto a cage so it can be spun for prep and paint.

the workshop is saying febuary. The shop is actually moving location over Xmas and the owner is a perfectionist... its gonna be worth it seeing the last car hes just finished.

Cost has gone up- ball park figure yesterday £2000

That's still a very good price in my opinion

yeah it is. I've got to spend about £750 sorting the engine as well . Add the cost of new trim and bits and bobs that need replacement I think the final bill will be £4500 - that's without retrimming the seats .

Due to the water ingress from the scuttlepanel the bulkhead soundproofing mat is I've now discovered pretty tatty...

Does anybody know if this is a replaceable spare? Or does anybody have one they can sell me please?

Cheers!

All the rot cut out and new metal welded in place. Hopefully bringing to an end the constant wet carpets!

Over the next few weeks the arches, underside and engine bay will all be stripped and prepped for paint. Hoping to have that done by Xmas before main panels.

The intention is to use a truck bed liner paint mixed to the Cherry red  for the underneath and arches. Now it is stripped its amazing how off colour the paint is compared to the red inside that hasn't been exposed to sunlight!

Onwards and upwards- what started as a reasonably cheap repair has gained a life of its own. :D

Progress this week. Steering rack and sub frame cleaned. Sub frame to be blasted and repainted. Steering rack has a very loose arm so that's getting replaced. Front and rear calipers removed and sent for reconditioning... results to follow. Hubs have been blasted and repainted. New bearings are waiting to be pressed in.

tom I've ordered a complete arm because that side was for want of a better word-floppy, no resistance at all.

I've also managed to find a near perfect condition bulkhead soundproofing mat. £20 from a farm in deepest darkest Devzies Wiltshire.
