[Engine_Work] The Graphites 2Nd Chapter: 2.1 Gti6 Turbo

Recommended Posts

matty_gti

After finally finishing off the Gti6 conversion project in my other thread and putting her away in the garage I thought that was it, job done! But as you do (we all know we do it!) I was looking around seeing what's out there and saw this engine come up for sale while on holiday in Greece...I knew I had to have it!

I'll get this project thread updated as and when I can! :)

I picked the engine up from Sussex and found it while browsing eBay on holiday ;)

Got a couple more teaser picks before I put up the whole spec. Also started buying a some fuel parts I needed, bought a 1.5 litre swirl pot, Bosch 044 fuel pump, two sytec filters with high and low pressure filter elements, turbo smart FPR, fuel pressure gauge and a few sytec mounts...

Can't wait for the noise!! Got a 3" bore exhaust system from the turbo back :)

The cam belt covers have been cut down to the bottom of the pulleys so should be ok, I think!

Aldworth33 - Thanks, engine porn!

Tommy Gun - It got removed because I quickly bought it ;)

Welshpug - Can you elaborate?

Wicked - The manifold is made by Jenvey, will get some more pics of the setup over the weekend :)

You must have plenty of cash, he wanted big bucks for that engine.

Yeah that's the one Giles, he had already broken down and sold most of the other suspension parts etc and only had odd bits left.

We spoke about the engine for a while and I weighed up how much this sort of spec would cost me if I were to build it so eventually we came to a price we were both happy with.

The spec:

Engine,

2.1l bored and stroked

Wossner 86.5mm forged pistons

PEC Con Rods

ACL bearings through out

ARP rod and crank bolts

ARP head stud and nut kit

Commetic MLS head gasket

AMS ported head

1mm oversized stainless inlet and exhaust race valves with 3 angle seats

CAT cams turbo profile inlet and exhaust cams

CAT cams double valve springs, solid lifters, caps and retainers

CAT cams adjustable pulleys

Custom made tubular exhaust manifold and downpipe

GT30AR50 Garrett roller bearing turbo

Tail 44mm external wastegate

Light weight race alternator with custom pulley

Jenvey duel plenum intake manifold and throttle body

680cc Bosch fuel injectors

Engine management,

KMS MD35 ECU

KMS wide band lambda sensor and controller

Custom wiring loom

Gizzmo IBC

Gearbox,

Late BE3 casing

Quaife close ratio gear set

Custom made final drive for correct gearing of the turbo engine

Gripper LSD

Billet steel light weight flywheel

Helix paddle clutch

Custom made driveshafts

Complete short shift rose jointed gear linkage and lever

All in all, 405bhp at 1.5bar

WP is concered about the oulley covers as they can prove vital.

I learnt the hard way as a kid. Had them off to look cool. Somehow a stone/nut/bolt something was flung into the timing area and pop went the weasel. Get some covers on the for insurance.

Very nice spec engine. Should be an absolute weapon! Will sound awesome, espexially with those larger valves!

Impressive spec, although i'd be a bit dubious of the KMS! Making use of all those horses is going to be bit of an issue...

Started on the fuel system first and then swapped over the engine.
