What Other 'interesting' Vehicles Do You Own..?

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

I remember the days when most members on here were paupers and skinflints who would wince at the thought of spending more than £1k for a 205, and it would be their daily driver. You lot are letting the side down!

Or maybe we all just grew up :(

I drive a sub £1k A3 1.8T daily. Irritatingly good car and easy to work, stupid Germans.

My 205s are still daily drivers. Although the Cti is only used in the little summer we have.

I also have this:

And the Mrs has a 55 plate Rav 4

No no, thats still me. Its just difficult to participate in this when 'all' you have is two 205's, one of which is a diesel.

Not meant to be a dig at anyone, there's been some lovely cars on show...far beyond my budget!

I've owned 205 GTIs off and on for approx 20 years, from it being my only car and meaning sacrifices in other areas, to having one to potter with and enjoy. It's surely a good thing that the genuine enthusiast interest doesn't fade just because owners may get to the stage of buying faster, newer, more expensive cars? I certainly don't enjoy driving my 205 any less than I used to!

I'm definitely still in the cheap fun car category, it was a £510 car ten years ago, the BMW was a £600 car two years ago!

Daily driver and tow car for the 205: hearing aide beige mondeo tdci estate with the complimentary aux belt rattle.

Weekend toy (/fast becoming investment):

Interestingly I keep think about selling it, finding a bit more dosh and trying an AMV8 vantage or a 996 turbo...

I forgot about the Mk2 golf GTI race car I built a few years ago. Unfortunately I've never had the time or money to compete with it. And I've just bought a house which will knacker the plan further. Track days it is.

Some nice metal in this thread, hats off to you chaps I'm envious I don't mind admitting!

I'm a bit too practical for my own good here I am afraid.

First in this pic my 3.2 Shogun and my PRG Minisport trailer

Still practical, although pretty rapid, my 535d touring

And finally the longest of longest long term longest term projects ever, my Mini turbo. One day I will finish it, in (very slow) progress since 1997....

205 and a 125i Honda moped.

The ped gets more action than the GTI nowadays!

lagonda

1940 Lagonda V12 drophead coupe. Bought this in 1976, last drove it in 1983. It was the chairman of Lagonda's personal car, so has a drilled chassis, brake drums etc as the Le Mans versions that were raced in 1939. This is the engine, now rebuilt to Le Mans specification, with 4 SU 1 5/8" downdraught carburetters. This is the engine as rebuilt ... sorry, as you can gather, having trouble getting actual pictures to appear.

<a target="_blank" href="http://imageshack.com/f/jwdscn0940aj"><img src="http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/280x200q90/716/dscn0940a.jpg" border="0"></a>

Engine rebuild included a new crankshaft safe to 7000 rpm (original was 5500). The cost was £6000 (the crankshaft, not the rebuild).

Chairman's driver told me they'd seen 118mph on the Oxford by pass. I found for best acceleration, it's best to change from 3rd into top at over 90mph....remember this is a car built when most cars struggled to reach 60. Going to be interesting to see what it's like to drive once it's back on the road.

Wins the 'interesting' award! That's some top speed for 1940!

Thanks....we offer discounts for forum members booking holidays in the chateau (minimum 2 nights, minimum 2 guests), and our adjacent villa (up to 9 guests).

I think the V12 was the fastest unsupercharged production car of its era. Price was around £1600 new...but remember you could buy a house then for £500.

Incidentally, due to what turned out to be a rather large number of missing/broken piston rings, the petrol consumption when I last drove it was 3 miles per gallon; but at less than 100 miles per GALLON of oil, it was probably costing more for the oil than the petrol.

Nice chateau!

It is indeed nice, I stayed there earlier this year.

As for other interesting cars, I have an mx5 mk2 (it's my lady's car really, honest) which is so much fun to drive.

Also I have a SL55, which has been tuned. Ooodles of power and torque, although quite calm to drive as it's so comfy. You have to watch the speedo when accelerating though as it gets to silly speeds far quicker then it feels like it is!

Might contact you in the futurw Goliath as the SL500/600/55 is something I've been considering as a future purchase. Though I currently know bugger all about them! Just fancy anything with a big v8/v12 and some of the mercs seem to be a very affordable way in.

Octy vrs diesel and Megane as daily drivers. Neither remotely qualifies as interesting but there's some fantastic cars in this thread - you very lucky buggers.

Interesting to see what people have beyond 205s - that's for sure!

Not the most interesting car around, but here's my 2002 Ford Focus ST170 - Running Bilstein B8 suspension, sports cat, Full Janspeed stainless system and a bluefin chip. Great all rounder car.

My Daily driver, 2015 Skoda Yeti Outdoor SE TDi 140 - Not many will beleive me, but it's a great car to drive, I love it!

Bought this a couple of months ago. Seems to be a 90's theme going on...

18381863245_2b4f8b3932.jpg

4.2 AJP V8. Presses along quite nicely when needed. Pop's and bangs on overun.

17115722978_8a1f3276a5.jpg

My 4 year old son loves it. The 8 month old isn't too sure about anything just yet, and my friends are stunned that I managed to aquire this.

The same week I brought this home, my brother in-law 'got' a new people carrier. I did chuckle....

Still enjoying it as much as possible. If it's dry, it goes out. It's in nice condition, but not treated as a garage queen. Looks good at the local Sainsbury's Parent & Child Parking.

So, that's another item on the bucket list checked off.

That leaves on my list of still to get...

BMW M5 (each one from E39 onwards)

Mercedes 280SL (Pagaoda roof)

Maserati (what to choose)

TVR Griffith 500

Citroen DS

Citroen SM

This is going to take a while....

Price up a V12 coil pack, prone to going and impossible to find a second hand one.. Ouch
