[Body_Work] 1991 Gti Steel Grey Detailing Progress Thread

Recommended Posts

ATK

My GTi is in for it's second day of detailing today, to get the paintwork looking good.

1991 205 GTi 1.9 with 180K miles on the clock, mechanically running great but body work needed some love!

Here's the sneak peek, full photos to follow once completed :)

GTechniq C4 is awesome on the trim, it would appear....

I was surprised to be relatively unimpressed with it - it improved my Ph1/5 bumpers but they very quickly faded with 'rain marks', e.g. under the rear lights. Perhaps it just needs another application (which would require a second bottle!).

What a tease, looks good, how was the paint work before going in ? Have they brought it back from the dead or was it not to bad

Thanks

Gary

All done by James at Ti22 at Newport, South Wales. James has done my Golf R32 (my daily) and my other halfs '97 Mini Cooper previously and is FANTASTIC at getting good results.

The 205 was in for a two day detail, which included fitting new lights. Had newly refubed wheels fitted just before going in. When going in, paintwork wasn't too bad considering the car is on 180K miles, see my other thread for 'before' pics...

Bonnet was wet sanded before the whole car had a two stage machine polish, finishing polish and waxing. GTechniq C4 on the trim, which really restored it.

Overall extremely pleased, few little jobs to do (seals, original radio, replace clock, door pins and fit mudflaps to front etc) and she's ready to enjoy! Mechanically running very, very well which is the main thing :)

Excuse the crap pics, better ones are to follow I promise!

Blimey! They've diversified since Peepshow!

205 looks cooler than a Polar Bear's bawsack. Very jealous :)

Very nice, that shade of grey makes a massive difference to the the look of a 205 I find.

Good to see someone looking after a GTi so well.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

This one's very high miles but the beams been done, suspension renewed, engine rebuilt etc. Running very well, so I'm really pleased.

Bodywork's still not perfect but the two days of attention has improved it massively. Could do with a couple of dents being removed etc. Going to keep potching and tweaking to make it as OEM as possible and to get it as good as it can possibly be.

Plan to keep it until it blows up, so it'll be cherished for sure :)

if you don't mind me asking, what price would one pay for a 2 day detail?

Must be bloody expensive if they do it for a living.

Depends on what you have done, I gave him a budget of £450 to work with and it was two days full working inc fitting the lights etc. Might seem like a lot, but for a car that I plan to keep and cherish I think it's worth it, personally. IMHO of course.
