[Car_Overhaul] 205 Gti Front Panel Replacement And Underside Restore W

Recommended Posts

dale205mills

Hi Guys

Some people on here no the topaz 205 that I brought off piston heads last year. The plan for it was to have a cheap 205 to drive about in but it sat in my yard for nearly a year with no engine, as the engine in it was on its last legs so a spare of mine was thrown in it and I put it in for mot at the start of this year and taxed it but with electrical gremlins that it had it would run and drive and just die, I have had the engine loom out of it and checked the wiring threw and threw a few times and replaced lots of bits but I drawed the line on how much money I would spend on it and decided it needed one of my gti6 engines put in it and with that idea it was put in my workshop for the fun to start.

I have had to put a new front panel onto and rebuild the inner wings as it was what you could call rotten, I have all so re stone chipped the underside and rebuilt the rear bumper mounts and the plan is to re fresh all of the running gear like I have done on my other 205.

How the car was.

Thank you for the kind words, I have had enough of looking at it and taken up space in my workshop as I have got a non sunroof body shell to go in its place and build something special.

are they pattern panels? What was the fitment like. I'm tempted to do this to my 205.

yes it is, the panel was not a bad fit but it was not like one from Peugeot and I had the problem of keeping the wings on and a rotten front end :( once I have been in there with the sealant gun to feel the gaps it should be fine but I don't think I would do it to a 205 if I was building a concourse one as I would look for a clean shell that needs paint and no panel work and go from there, it was my first try on one so the next mite be easier but it is a bit upsetting to see a 205 with no front end on ;)

I could of left it as it was but I will have my little boy with me and putting the gti6 engine in it, I just wanted a solid 205, that wouldn't grumble if I get a bit keen :D she will look good again.

Some Sundays are spent having a day off and relaxing, mine is not when the wife and son are out of the way and I am on call for work, which means I have to be close to the work van ready to go into work if there is a problem with are waste water treatment centers and I look after the ones in Hampshire. I have just gave my engine bay and few coats off high build primer, I will leave it for a week to see if it settles and hardens, then I will stone chip and paint.

You've done a really good job on those wings Dale. Wish you could do mine! I look forward to seeing this once it is done.

What make of silver paint did you use for the engine mounts, inlet manifold etc? I bought some silver vht paint but it's way too shiney..

Cheers!

Dizzee stuff

The front end of my 205 looked about the same, but I managed to make a very nice repair panel for the inner wing. keep up the good work.

It was alloy wheel silver base coat and I used a paint gun.
