[car_restoration] Cti Restoration

Recommended Posts

ALEX

This is my 1.6 CTI I bought a few years ago.

I intended to get it running for a summer back then and it only needed suspension bushes to get it through it's MOT.

But I've ended up restoring it instead.

Here's my progress so far.

So much want - I think cherry red is my favourite colour and I've had a hankering for a CTi for a while. This project is what I wished I had the time (and skill!) for.

Looking very good Alex.

Looks great buddy. Have you rebuilt the calipers with new seals, where did you get the kits from? What have you done to the brake discs, they look very silver?

Ebay Bigg Red seal kit.

Yeah, The discs were Shot blasted as they weren't that worn but very rusty.

I intended to paint just the middle bit with HT paint , but I figured the pads will ware away the paint.

I'll be watching the discs closely when I bed in the new pads.

I browsed other forums that painted the whole discs and they said it just wares it off.

I've progressed since and have more pics to folow when I get the time!

Well spotted

I had it given, and was undiceided at the time with that or the original!

what would you have done?

The original standard is still in my shed.

i have a completely oem cherry red 1.6 gti and have always thought the auto bonnets look better than standard and would consider using one on mine!

i would keep the standard bonnet in case i wanted to put things back to completely standard again but dont think fitting one is too big a departure from standard.

its really just another standard peugeot part in the same way a lot of people replace sl 201's with sl299's which is also something i would consider again mindful it could be changed back quickly and easily.

i admire the amount of work you have lavished on the cti and have done to an amazing standard. that i am sure we all aspire to with our own cars!

a great restoration and i look forward to seeing you progress to completion.

keep up the good work

Mark

I did exactly that on my cti when I got it painted. It almost seems obligatory! However I am a bit indifferent about it but it is a nice little touch that only 205 geeks spot. However I liked the sound deadening on the original.

Great attention to detail should stand the test of time for a few years.
