You need to bleed all 4 corners, Give them a few squirts of WD40 over the next few days as this should help, The rear slave cyn can also be a pig I'm afraid

do you think its worth changing the coil once the cars reached a highish mileage or would you leave it unless it fails?

High performance HT leads.

You replace your battery every year?!! :D

Why buy a new sump plug? Only the washer needs replacing.

No proven gain from using High performance HT leads, just get the original ones or equivilent.

Is your heater motor knackered? Un-necessary expense, the motor will last ages unless it is already making noises. The resistor is the main problem.

How old are the brake hoses? If you are being that thorough on a service & they have been on since the car was made then it might be worth replacing them, the inside breaks down as much as the outside of the hose.

You cannot bleed the whole brake system from the rear drums, the front caliper/ rear wheel cylinder is the end of the line for the fluid in that pipe, it doesn't circulate back to the M/C or Drums, you need to flush it out at each point, as Miles says.

Cambelt, every three years or 36k, when was it last done?

Graham.

I've always found that Bosch wipers only last a couple of months before they just smear water across the screen - I've found Champion ones to be better.

The Bosch Wipers I bought a month or so ago have also started to smear on the upstroke :D

Right.

No I dont replace my battery every year, it looks knackered and when I got the car (last year) the guy said it needed changing, and now I agree with him!

The heater motor is becoming very noisy, i have cleaned it out and oiled it up but even still, so im replacing that as well.

I'm not hoping to get any performance gains from the HT leads, however i doubt I'll lose any.

Brake hoses were done by SSP about 4 odd months ago when my rear beam and 306 drums were installed.

Cambelt was done at 111K, im on 120 so plenty of life there.

Sump washer was 30p, and a sump plug was £1.50, i didnt think it'd break the bank

Noted about the bleeding the breaking system, I'll put some WD on as recommend and hope for the best.

:D

Coil, havent replaced but seems to be going strong, so i'll replace that further down the line.

What about the front ones?

If they were all changed then you would have had new fluid flushed right through anyway so you shouldn't need to change it again.

not the front no, but when i installed my front pads i did check things out, everything certainlly seemed in order...

I suppose i could replace them.

I'm doing the brake fluid change for more of a learning curve for myself actually

bear in mind last week my car passed its MOT, presumably they would have checked things like that...?

About those HT leads... anyone know where one could buy 'em colored? it would look pretty sweet them all being red...

Such and old engine looks a little boring and could use some touching up...

i think magnecor make normal leads that might be coloured red or blue or you could buy the 8.5mm ones if youve got the cash but i wouldnt buy any others unless they were genuine ones

Sounds more then comprehensive! You sure treat your car well, definitely need to get it on track and thrash it. After all you refer to 'it' as she and we all know women like to be dominated.

if you want to be REALLY thorough, get some new rear compensators as well :D.

they always seem to be more or less affected by age or something else.

just my 2p worth.

Nik, it's only a 1.6 GTi but Rich, you could replace the brake pressure limiting valve, they stop working properly with age as well & seeing as you are bleeding the brakes when you change the fluid you could save it from needing doing at the next MOT.

A cambelt is about £100 at Pug AFAIK.
