Hi there . I am new to this forum but i am reading that post from a long long time. I actually have 206 GTi with still stock EW10J4 . For it i have already prepared :
2.2 (EW12J4) Inlet (here in Bulgaria it's difficult to find RC :( ) , bigger 63 mm TB , New engine management ( Megasquirt 2 Last hardware version Upgraded with military grade elements from me and one friend), bigger 440cc injectors , Garrett T2860 .

At the moment i'll be installing the inlet, new 250cc injectors ,TB , Engine management ,Wideband controller gauge ( innovate ) , Oil pressue gauge , still waiting for boost meter to arrive . Wideband will be connected to management so i can have active AFR control.

I want to ask if someone knows the size of the burning chamber? So far i know if i am right that head holds 40cc i don't know if pistons come flat with the block or they have some distance. I want to calculate the exact thickness of the head gasket according to the boost pressure i am going to apply (About 0.5-0.6) . As for now i'll be running stock internals and in that line of thoughts they should hold 250 HP am i right ? I'll set my boost control so that i get boost later so i keep the rods safe .

Next i'm planing on Wiseco pistons and rods and replacing the differential or reinforcing it with ARP bolts. After that the plan is to get more boost ;)

P.S.

Car has suspension and brace modes already now is only time for POWER ;) I'll be very happy for your help ;) After all i want to create a little guide for the people in Bulgaria .

In Bulgaria we have only one tuned 206 GTi an it is used for Rallying only ( pulls 460 HP with fuel additives, it's driven at 350. There is a 4x4 project starting now ;) )

I use the XU10 1998> steel rollers.

Thank you Sandy. Is that rollers from XU10J4RS 306gti6 ones or another XU10. Our engines using double valve spring. Timing belt very bad vibrating when lift off. Brand new tensioner cant hold the belt. I saw BIC's 106's old EW10 broken due auto tensioner and we dont want to risc the engine.

all the same, not specific to the xu10J4RS

You need the all steel kit, there are also plastic rollers available for XU10J4R/RS. Auto tensioners like the EW one, can't cope at all with the flick from harsher cams.

We bought and install steel kit as you said. And it works like charm. Thank you very much again Sandy.

Folks,

Any solid idea how to reduce cam overlap ? :(

No VVT on EW10J4...

vernier pulleys surely?

Is it to hard to fit EW10J4S 180hp crankshaft to EW10J4 138hp block? How much machining needed for this. I have spare EW10J4 engine but wanna put J4S crankshaft. Because I cant find good and cheap J4S block. I'm building engine for Rotrex supercharger.

vernier pulleys surely?

I actually have some from a RFR engine, with limited degree angle limit. Can that be used?

I am thinking about advancing the exhaust by 2 degrees and retard intake by 2, to reduce overlap because of pressure difference due to supercharging. Basically it throws mixture on the exhaust especially on deceleration, popping the heck out of the exhaust.

Did anyone tried or saw EW10 crankshaft in EW12 block with longer conrods for better rod stroke ratio ? Only I saw a French EW engine specialist but they are using forged crankshaft which is much more expensive.

Is anyone saw a different crankshaft in EW12 engine other thank this one.

86x86 square engine with 150mm conrod lenght will be very revy engine I think. Ratio R / L: 0287

Is it worth extra spending money on forged crankshaft.

I thought about it for my own car back along, but my competition engines work superbly with standard block and stroke but a better rod/piston design. Rules dictate that the 206 block must be used in those, so it's not an option to use the taller block anyway.

But I'm regulation free. :) We dont need to follow any rule. :)

I know I'm asking to weird questions. :) And here is another one. Is there any one know valves angle to piston block surface on EW10 engine and XU10 engine. Sandy said that EW header developed over lately XU heads. So I think that angles will same or very close.

I'm thinking to use 306 Kit Car pistons with 86.5 or 87 bore on EW12 engine with EW10J4S head with custom conrod. Reason for choice that piston is price. If I want 86.5 bore custom EW10 piston I have to paid over double price for custom piston. But I'm already will use custom conrods. So If i can use that pistons I only need one custom parts in my engine. Here is what is in my head.

Wössner Pistons Picture for EW10J4S Engine. (We already use them on several cars)

rfBFLjZ.jpg

Wössner Pistons for 306 Kit Car

hieiEo3.jpg

EW12 Block (8.5mm longer than EW10)

88mm EW10 crankshaft (I cant afford forged 86mm crankshaft)

Wössner 306 KitCar Pistons 86.5 mm or 87 mm

Custom Conrods with 148mm length and 18mm pin for 306 Pistons.

Rod Stroke Ratio = 0.297

EW10J4S head and Catcams 4901903 (293/293 degree - 13/13 lift)

Note: I found EW10J4S engines valve angles

intake = 24.5 degree

exhaust = 23 degree

Again. This is a track car. Its not related with any rule or regulation.

Thank you.

If you're going to all that effort, use decent quality pistons rather than those!

Do you have any suggestion Sandy? What about Wiseco ones? I'm trying to keep cost of both piston and conrods sub 800-1000€.

Omega if you can get them, someone on here had some recently I think. Otherwise custom CP is my preferred.

I have some information that Intake and exhaust camshafts from GTI6 (XU10 J4RS) can be installed on EW10J4 . i hear of some pretty good results.

Ou.. and one more question that is of my interest if the EW12j4 Exhaust manifold fits to the EW10j4 one reason to rebuild it for the turbo project and secondly to try some atmosphere tune ups before decompressing the engine I am quite sure it fits because external both engines are allot similar except variator head and longer engine block .
