Wow, a lot of work has gone into F816 since it left my hands and it's good to see you guys have the skills, time and patience to repair it.

What was wrong with the 16V engine and you took it out again?

Anthony, did you ever get a chance to find out why the HG blew in the 8V?

Paul, did you replace the trim or painted it? I like better with the black trim it has now.

The car looks good with the yellow driving lights. Shame the SBC stickers got wasted ;) but I guess there aren't (m)any SBC parts in the car as it stands.

I am curious how it drives with the 16V in it, it would be good to meet up when you have time.

Thanks Feb, there was nothing wrong with the 16v engine (at the time) anyway

I personally prefer it with the black trims.

My patience is running rather low with this at the moment.

The temp went off the scale in traffic in the summer as the fans didn't kick in and since then it's been going into the red quite a few times.

I've just changed the thermostat and fan switch and it still goes into the red and the top thermostat pipe is full of air despite bleeding the system numerous times.

Thoughts are to buy an engine off a mate which has the petert cams. Or a standard engine off another mate

Or stick the derv engine in with the Td04

Was wondering how you were getting on mate.

Don't go down the derv route. Might be quick, but I can't imagine it would be much fun to drive with a narrow power band. Engines are so cheap these days in might just be worth trying a new standard engine!

You fancy selling your diff? Any news on the charger route? Was speaking to my local mechanic about charging mine and he's dead keen to be let loose on it to make it a neat install as that is my main concern.

Be good to catch up for a beer or curry sometime soon

Don't underestimate the derv

I'm not going charger route any more I don't think. Mikey may have his kit for sale if you're interested. But he's a hard man to get hold of

I've got another engine sorted which is basically the exact spec of mine.

Can't tempt you with a set of petert stage 1 cams ;p

I'll fit the charger for you mate.

I'm keeping the diff mate. I just need the car to be usable. Just need to fix the bloody rear beam

Right i've gone for a standard 6 lump this time, it's a known good engine and just want to have a working car really.

Also got plans in place to sort the rear beam!

So hopefully before christmas I might have a working car!

Thanks for that enigne again mate, need to get round Ryan's to strip the bottom end. That was one f***ing long drive home. Awesome roads though! Might go for a very long drive one day! I'm trying to find the road on google maps but can't find the bloody thing!

That would explain the jumpy speedo!

Everything apart from exhaust bolts and driveshafts are undone

I know this is going to piss some people off but as I'm pretty sure I've blown the HG from splitting a hose on the way to work. I'm sticking a xud engine in with a td04 turbo...

Turns out I didn't blow the headgasket luckily so I've kept the petrol engine in.

But i've had soooo much fun and games with the speedo cable and vss sensor of late...

After breaking the original one several posts up, I borrowed one off a freind and the only thing I can think that's happened is that the pin snapped off whilst driving and burnt the f*** out of the plug and then heating up the square link. Causing it to snap.

This then happened to 2 other VSS sensors afterwards and ruined 2 VSS sensors. Should of replaced the loom I know but didn't have a spare loom to hand.

I now have a spare VSS and loom thanks to Cheesegrater. So will try it tomorrow.

Then this happened

IMG-20140402-WA0006_zpsgtgnyoqm.jpg

The speedo was sticking, quite humourous as when I went above 70 mph it shot up 140 mph

A trip to see Anthony solved this, many thanks again. You've got me out of the s*it several times recently and i'm very grateful! You're a top geezer.

Gave it a clean as well:

It overheated when it was real hot a few weeks back and the fan didn't kick in. I was under the bonnet trying to find an air leak with easi start. Wish I had of noticed the fan didn't kick in sooner

I found out the beam is shagged also

Poor thing has been in the garage for months

Well I'm sick of 6 engines now and my diesel engine is far quicker, so the dturbo engine is going into this now.

Just need to get the diesel 205 ready to sell and the engine out then progress can resume on this

Diesel. Don't do it. I drove a well sorted XU9J4 205 track recently and I was reminded how nimble the lighter blocks are. I've been conditioned to the weight of the XU10J4 in my car and I'd have to say driving the other car was a breath of fresh air. Whilst my car is much quicker in a straight line, you can't beat the nimble handling of the alloy block. Find yourself an XU9J4, rebuild it properly and enjoy another 10+ years of trouble free motoring.

Given Paul's track record killing GTi6 engines, I'd give an Mi16 about 5 minutes before he rendered it scrap metal...

Haha true

I'd like to think the diesel engine is pushing around 170-180 bhp, it's got a turbo off a scooby (td04) and an 11mm pump

Excellent thread, a good read, What's wrong with the beam? Why did it fail so soon after a rebuild?

I've no idea, got a feeling something is wrong with the beam tube.

It's had 2 rebuilds and feels like it's got play in the inner bearings both times.

Visually the beam looks perfect
